OK, South Park has officially jumped the shark for me. |
|
Yeah, I've known for years that they were Libertarian. But I still found most of their shows funny. I was offended by their portrayal of Al Gore, but I thought I would give them another chance.
I moderately enjoyed their send-up of Cloverfield, although I got tired of the same jokes pretty quickly.
But, as the kids were looking for the "truth" they protrayed as the hero the guy who refused to seek the "truth". The kid who didn't want to find out "what was really going on" they protrayed as the hero. The kid who would rather "drink the kool-aid" and derided the rest for making "bad decisions" who would just rather "accept" things on face value and denigrated anyone else who questioned - this kid was the hero?
Isn't that the opposite of what the show has been about up until now? Question everything! Find Humor everywhere!
Some kool-aid drinkers may like this episode - but they have "jumped the shark" as far as I am concerned. As of tonight I am no longer a South Park fan or even an apologist.

2. they jumped the shark for me awhile back... |

The episode where the South Park kids invaded Afgahnistan was like something out of WWII.
But besides that, Matt & Trey did the live-action show "That's My Bush" which portrayed Bush as a likable "Joe Sixpack" who was just trying to do the right thing while Democrats were portrayed as insane terrorists.
Similarly, their film "Team America: World Police" -- if they had equally mocked liberal and conservative celebrities, I would have given them the benefit of the doubt. But to portray liberal celebrities as anti-American bomber terrorists while sparing conservative celebrities from ridicule did not strike me as satire with anything but a negative agenda.

3. I caught a SP rerun a few weeks ago.. |
|
it must have been a show from sometime just before the Iraq War. The humor didn't hold up well at all. It seemed so dated.

5. Well, I still love South Park |
|
Some of their episoders are not extremely good, but some are awesomely funny.
I think they take swipes at both sides, democrats and republicans.
They love to target the bigots above all.
Sure they made fun of Al Gore, but they also made fun of the whole "pray the gay out" crap.
My favorite is when they took on World of Warcraft and, when a player has become so good that he is invincible and does things the game is not supposed to allow, someone says "oh my god, he has no life!" and then cut on the fat middle-aged moron wasting his life away playing his online game.
I guess my middle of the road tendencies have to make me more in phase with their sense of humor.

6. I never have liked South Park at all. |
|
I used to enjoy The Tick and I still love The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and Stewie, but American Dad and South Park have always been kind of "off" to me.

10. I found That's mu bush funny till 9/11, then THEY juped the shark |
|
sadly they have not really returned since then. I can imagine being uber patriotic for a while, but they've really just shown their true colors since then I'm afraid. South park is still funny if you catch it on one of their good night, but overall, yeah I'm amazed it's lasted so long.
