The term "Repugs"
Am I the only person who thinks the word "Repug" is WAY too cute to be applied to Republicans? I mean, what exactly is insulting about it? I can think of some better terms that have been used here....

Repukes
Repigs
Rethugs

Can anybody else contribute some insulting terminology, so that we can reserve the word "pug" for its intended purpose...to describe a cute breed of doggie?

2. "Repug" is short for repugnant
as in disgusting, deplorable, odious pieces of pseudo-human waste. No offense to moderate Repubicans held hostage by the extremist wing of their party.

4. Then should we use the full word, like "Repugnants"?
Because "Repug" just sounds so cute, even without the doggie connection, LOL.

Oh, wait, I thought of another one:

RePRICKS!

11. i like to refer to them as republicons (as in a neocon)
or republiks / republikas (as in "the democrat party") (the "k" reminding me of a nazi reference)

3. I had called them Repigs - but felt that unfair to pigs so now just call them...
..pigshits. Much more apropos. Why unnecessarily insult pigs?

5. I dislike ALL those cutesy terms
Expressing outrage by "modifying" a name is usually a junior-high school move.

Every once-in-a-while, in a tight context, it's fine, but some people can't EVER use the name of anything/anyone they don't like without changing it. A lot of times, when combined with misspellings, you can't even identify what the original name was.

Nicknames are okay. They're consistent. For instance, "Billo", "Tweety", and "Big Dog" -- for people we respectively hate, love and hate, and love. (Bill O'Reilly, Chris Matthews, Bill Clinton). I like to call George W. Bush "The Idiot Bastard Son" after an old Zappa song. But the whole asterisk thing just struck me as stupid. I understood it, and I generally respect those who indulged in it, but it didn't look very good on them.

I think the term "repug" comes from the word "pugnacious", meaning "combative". I agree, it's a weak epithet. But most of the alternatives are just as bad.

What do I call members of the opposing party? Republicans. That's insulting enough. And it's likely to be that way for many years to come.

6. The other terms are more insulting than cutesy
Besides, if we all wrote "Republicans" every single time when referring to those assholes, we'd end up with carpal tunnel syndrome.

I already have it, and have no desire to share it with others. :)

8. Wingnuts
I try to avoid sophomoric insults.

Of course trying and succeeding are two different things ... and when I run up against someone who has their cheeks torqued too tight, I like the term WINGNUT.
