I just switched to 100% renewable electric for my house! WooHoo!
http://www.newwindenergy.com/

I am now off coal, nuclear, oil from anywhere, or natural gas. All of my home electricity is now wind and hydro.

Woo Hooo!

This came in my regular Connecticut bill. It's an option. I went to the websites and decided to go for it. It will cost me $4 extra/month. Period. It's that simple, and I'm also supporting more renewable exploration.

Go to the site above and there is a national map so you can look up your electric provider and see what your options are.

Yay!!!

My house is also off oil: I put in a propane heater (legal and vented) so I'm off oil, as well.

When I can buy a new hybrid car, I'll really be off the grid. For now, I'll have to settle for my 35mpg civic.

Feels. Really. Good.

2. This is a wonderful option. I'm just curious for how long you
pay more for your origninal bill?

4. How long? It's an extra $4/month, until further notice.
One thing I liked is that for every 100 customers who sign up, they will install a solar panel on the roof of a public building.

Cool! Watch your bill and look for an insert about it.

unsustainable power sources. The idea that they throw in a panel for getting others to sign up is a great incentive. I was wondering if and when there was a time when your equipment was able to sell back energy to your energy co., and hence a reduction in your own bill? Maybe that was not an option, just curious?

3. Congratulations!
I'm waiting for the solar technology to improve a bit and then I would love to have it set up on my roof.

5. I don't have it on my roof: My electricity will come from already existing
wind and hydro in new england. I'm not making it, although I'd love to.

When the expense comes down or Obama offers a credit, I'll put up a panel.

7. The reality is with that feature, your just paying more money.. only if they re-invest that money
into alt. energies does it actually work.

13. A note about propane.
It's still a petrochemical.

Propane is made from the byproducts of oil and natural gas refining. The creation of propane would be impossible if oil or natural gas were to dry up. So you're not really off of oil heating, you've just changed the form of the dependency.

Just sayin'.

14. You'd be right if I were still using my basement boiler: I'm not. I'll use a fourth
of the fuel I used to use because I also installed a direct vent propane heater in my livingroom: It burns in my livingroom instead of my basement.

So, it uses a fourth of the fuel my boiler uses.

And, it's very low polluting, in contrast to wood or pellet stoves, and it's completely programmable, 24/7.

Before converting your boiler/furnace to propane, look up Rinnai heaters. They sit right in the room with you, blasting you with warm air for pennies.
