Do any of you guys have an opinion of Craig Ferguson's show?

I only ask in my capacity as a fellow Scotsman with a love of all things American. I don't see his name turn up on this site a lot even though he's on directly after Letterman and generally has a certain amount to say about politics. Youtube's lousy with Craig Ferguson videos, also... I only found out recently that he even HAD a show.

4. Am I being dim-witted? I see hardly any stuff on DU about him

Unless I'm being particularly daft I don't think I've seen a single thread even mentioning him and it seems to me that he's actually a pretty strong Dem ally (although not overtly). His audience is mostly college kids and he's already said strong things about people voting. I suppose I just wondered why no one talks about him. I intend to point ALL my pals in the direction of his Youtube videos.

3. I think he's the most brilliant host in late night television.
But I also think he's way too cagey about his political leanings.

11. Could you actually ask anything more of him in that department, though?

I don't know. I think he does about as much as he can get away with, meaning that he can't entirely cram the show with politics or it would stop being a late night chat show, I think given the format he's working with he's actually doing a fair bit. He came out against Prop 8, but without making much of a fuss about it, made strong noises about the fact that people should vote and has spent almost very night this week making fun of John McCain.

19. True, and he must entertain people from all sides of the political spectrum.
Sometimes he includes liberals in a general rebuke that is clearly intended for conservatives, and I find some attempts at humor at Obama's expense to be a stretch, though.

12. He's gotten much better lately. I really have a lot of respect for the guy.
His criticism of McCain after he bailed-out on Letterman was even more scathing than Letterman himself.

And so much more brave, because Ferguson has much, MUCH less job-security than Dave does.

14. He needs to stop cutting his own hair
in his sleep.

Nah, really — I love his silliness, especially his "scream face," but I think in his political humor he tries too hard to be "fair," by following a McCain or Palin joke with an Obama or Biden joke or back-tracking with something like, "No, McCain's a nice guy."

Also, one of his guests awhile back said he was the best interviewer of the late-night hosts. I think he's the worst, as he constantly interrupts his guests to make a joke. Letterman is the best interviewer in the current late-night bunch, hands down.

17. Yes!
Love him, but I love all things Scottish (except maybe the food, which I hear involves deep frying just about everything these days--right down to pizza, cheeseburgers, and candy bars).

I do miss Craig Kilbourne in that spot, though. WTF happened to him?

In my opinion, he has more talent in his little toe than Letterman and Leno combined. Until Ferguson came along, I viewed late night as a lost cause after Carson retired.

And a Ferguson video from last night was up on the board before I went to sleep.
