2. Since stupidity and exceeding 15min of fame is not illegal...

8. In TFA, it says he received a payment for child support ...
... despite him saying he neither receives nor pays it.

10. Our child support enforcement agency is useless.
My partner got a nastygram warning him that he was in arrears, that he needed to mail a payment immediately, via overnight mail (to a PO box in the same post office we use ???), or he risked his drivers license, tax refund, and possible incarceration.

Turns out he was ahead, and the computer can't tell an overpay from an underpay.

Maybe Joe received payment at one point, and doesn't any more? Maybe the payment was for arrears?

13. Who knows, but ...
... if the GOPers can bleat on and on about Obama's birth certificate, "Joe" the "plumber" can take a few days of attention regarding his child support check.

No one dragged him into the spotlight.

3. Huh? Why should he be in jail? Do you know what his custody agreement is?
I think the guy is an idiot and a lying opportunist, but this is just downright silly and embarrassing for DU.

15. Your excerpt still doesn't discuss the terms of custody and to take it where the OP
did, without knowing what the agreement is, hurts DU.

17. Joe the Plumber is a FRAUD
Joe doesn't need a license Wurzelbacher said.

....
But the county Wurzelbacher and his employer live in, Lucas County, requires plumbers to have licenses. Neither Wurzelbacher nor his employer are licensed there, said Cheryl Schimming of Lucas County Building Regulations, which handles plumber licenses in parts of the county outside Toledo.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081016/ap_on_el_pr/joe_the_plumber

Losie said Wurzelbacher owes $1,182 from January 2007

A second lien has been filed in the courhouse against Wurzelbacher for $1,261

Oregon has paid Wurzelbacher's taxes & license!

5. You need to post a different excerpt ...
Inspector General Thomas P. Charles also is investigating why the director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services approved a check on Wurzelbacher through the state's child-support computer system.

Director Helen Jones-Kelley said that after a "team meeting," she OK'd the check because the department often runs inquiries to check for unpaid child support on people thrust into "the public spotlight."

Wurzelbacher said he has custody of his 13-year-old son and neither pays nor receives child support, leaving him puzzled about why he would be checked.

9. Even so...
Why would this be posted under "he needs to go to jail?"

People don't usually pay child support when they have (physical) custody of their children.

16. "The result of those checks have never been publicly shared."
"Given our understanding that Mr. Wurzelbacher had publicly indicated that he had the means to purchase a substantial business enterprise, ODJFS, consistent with past departmental practice, checked confidential databases to make sure that if Mr. Wurzelbacher did owe child support, or unemployment compensation taxes, or was receiving public assistance, appropriate action was being taken," wrote Jones-Kelley. "The result of those checks have never been publicly shared."

Oregon has paid Wurzelbacher's taxes & license!

He says he got custody of the kid. In which case he wouldn't be paying child support.
