Matthews keeps saying McCain/Palin haven't been the bigots we know they are
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 05:28 PM by bigtree

. . . in this campaign.

He said that 'some' surrogates, like Bachmann, had 'connected the dots' but that McCain/Palin never waged the destructive campaign themselves.

I wonder who Matthews thinks drew the outline for those racist and bigoted dots that others obligingly connected? That's just what McCain/Palin wanted to happen; they want the voters to 'connect the dots' and conclude that Obama is un-American and godless.

Matthews is just being deliberately ignorant on this. It's not the same standard of an adherence to honesty he applies to others' motives.

1. Thanks for starting thisc thread!
I've been watching Matthews and wanted to post on it, but am new and dont have enough posts to start a thread. I can't believe Matthews, he's being a total asshole! Its not ignorance imo, he knows full well what he's doing. McCain has run the slimiest race-bating campaign, full of innuendo. Matthews wants to run for Congress and in my opinion he's starting early, trying not to offend McCain. Matthews statement that McCain should get the Nobel prize (or something to that effect) for refraining from bringing up Rev Wright is the biggest crock of sh*t!

5. exactly right
McCain broaches it by declaring, when asked, that he's 'refraining' from discussing it -- without explaining why he thinks it's off-base, if he does. The biggest sin of the reckless, opportunistic campaign McCain is running is the sin of omission.

A leader should always stand firmly against such demagoguery, rather than allowing others to promote these slurs and attacks as McCain/Palin have in allowing many of these to go un-remarked on.

21. Actually, compared to other elections, Matthews has been fairly objective with this one.
I watch him every day, and he regularly rips McCain and Palin a new one. And he is a stickler on the Constitution.

If you need a hate object this cycle it isn't Matthews.

Remember, he's a pundit and what motivates him is ratings, not political loyalty. He's basically watching out for his own ass.

2. He's all over the place
I've heard him make the opposite argument, saying that McCain is responsible because he lets it happen without saying anything to stop it.

His show should have a disclaimer: For entertainment purposes only. Do not vote based on this show.

12. Did Obama help the Clintons (and their supporters, by extention) 'whitewash' their 'history?'
Is Obamas support and praise of the Clintons just crass opportunism, or might some of us credibly find guidance and solace in that relationship?

13. Those are all fine questions, but I don't know why I would be expected to know their answers...
And "extention" is not a word, btw.

14. I was led by your comments to expect that you can discern the motives of 'Clinton supporters'
. . . and it follows that you should be able to use that extraordinary power of perception to discern Obama's motive in his support and praise of the Clintons. I thought you might take advantage of the opportunity to construct a cynical dialog to contradict that very open and profuse support and praise and translate that into the 'whitewashing' that you attribute to 'Clinton supporters.'

My bad.

extention/extension . . . let me know if any other misspellings trip you up.

19. they are so disingenuous!
Too bad Obamas guy doesnt throw Keating, Liddy etc back in Christies face. But then again, Obamas discipline and not going down in the gutter with those turds is what has him leading in the polls so far and what will win him this election. Its a good thing I'm not a spokesperson, I'd be erupting at all their innuendo crap.

24. Isn't Ron Christie the idiot who told an Iraq Vet that...
he (Ron) had served the country as well by being Cheney's boot licker?

How much self hatred do you have to have to be Gay and Black and smearing Barack Obama and lie for Sarah Palin.
