What I would really like to see Tuesday night... |
|
Edited on Sat Nov-01-08 07:48 PM by kentuck
is an ass-kicking so devastating that the Republicans would split into 2 or 3 separate parts. The Democrats would sweep the House and Senate races with a filibuster-proof majority. Palin and McCain would attack each other as responsible for the loss. Rush and Hannity would take the next day or two off to figure out what excuse to give their listeners when they return. The few remaining Repubs in the House and Senate would hold a news conference signaling their willingness to work with the Democrats in a new "bi-partisan" way. Total chaos within their once proud and arrogant Party. Forty more years in the wilderness would be too good for them. They should be dissolved as a credible political Party and forced to start over with something more authentic and truthful. I would like to see all these things but I realize that I may be wishing for a little too much.

1. You mean "filibuster-proof majority", don't you? |
|
...unless you're concerned about Obama vetoing a bunch of Dem legislation...
:)

6. NP...I did the same thing myself last week. |
|
It's funny how we're still in the mindset that we need to have enough Dems in Congress to fend off the President :)

8. True. With some of the Dem idiots in Congress, he might actually have to do that. |
|
I'm not one to hand the keys to the kingdom to anybody, but I trust Obama's judgment over Congress'.

4. It happened once before. It can happen again. |

I don't think we are going to see as huge a sweep as the Democratic sweeps of the 30-60s, but we are going to see a Democratic President with a comfortable working majority in Congress for the first time in 30 years, and that is a really good thing. It is a really good thing because these damn stupid republican idiots, with their theocratic nonsense, their neoliberal free market fundamentalist nonsense, and their neocon american exceptionalist geopolitical nonsense have created the worst mess our nation has been in since the 30's. The people have finally woken up, realized once again we are in a huge republican mess, and are about to volunteer our party to clean it all up one more time.

Obama has to be willing to hold their hands as he moves his agenda through congress.
But you can bet that the nasty pubbies will do everything they can to make us and Obama look bad. Its what they did to Pres. Clinton, and they saw it work. They will unload on Obama from the first day.
Well, Obama has said he needs us to do what needs to be done. He knows what he is up against.
So my question is: what will we do to help the keep shit they will sling from hitting Obama?
I suggest we return the fire with an even greater force. Every line they used against us, and for Bush, we use against them and cram it down their throats.
Now what were some of those lines?

10. I am with you. We have to mobilize |
|
and keep fighting on the internet, the call in shows on radio and tv, the letters to the editors and holding the Democratic senators and congresspeople feet to the fire. I think the people have learned how to use the tools available to them to fight the good fight. We have to keep it up. Some of the independent videos, fund raising, blogs, articles, movements have been extraordinary actions by just a few people. When Obama becomes president we must not simply defend him, but take offensive action to assist him.

We have to accept that we, as a country, are in dire straits. Too many of our fellows still have their heads in the sand thinking all is fine and dandy and that we are burying the last 30 years of republican stranglehold. Well the pubbies still have the hearts and minds of half the country. We are stuck. They are still alive.
They will attack Obama without mercy. Attack because he is black, because he's a democrat, because he isn't like them. Probably even worse than they attacked Bill Clinton.
We've got to get organized and become the wall between them and Obama. We've got to make sure Obama has room to maneuver. We can't let them box him in where he has to worry about protecting himself. We must be the protectors.

I'm hoping for 300+ electoral and a clear majority in the popular. At least enough to fend off attempts to steal another election and enough to preempt any "they stole it" accusations from the RW. Hoping for 60 seats in the Senate but realistically looking for 56-58 plus some gains in the House.
I'll never forget years ago a sportscaster asked Joe Montana how many points the 49'ers would have to score in the Super Bowl to beat the other team. His reply was, "One more than they do."
I'll be real happy with that...
