1. I live in NJ just across the river from PA... |
|
I did alot of driving in rural PA the past week.
Tons of McCain signs in rural PA with a sprinkling of Obama signs here and there.
I think PA is up for grabs, maybe even leaning McCain.
The cities will go for Obama. PA is a huge state mostly white suburban.
Its been said before by James Carville (I think) that PA is best described as Philadelphia on one end, Pittsburgh at the other, and in between the two is Alabama...

2. I think it's going to be closer than all of us think, but I think Obama will win. |
|
I lived in Pa. for 47 years, and I was just talking to a cousin about 1/2 hour ago. She said there are a lot more McNuts signs in "North Hills" which is a suburb of Pgh, but the closer that you get to the city, the more Obama signs you see. We talked about her close friends refusing to vote for Obama because "as a christian, I could never vote for anyone who wasn't pro-life". My cousin and her husband are voting first thing tomorrow morning and are Obama supporters. He's a Christian minister and they both believe single issue voters are nuts! I've tried my best to convince them that there should be a separation between a secular government and a person's faith, but my arguments haven't caught hold. I even said there are lots of laws I disagree with! How about the death penalty? They disagree with that too, but it's rarely an election discussion point!
I believe Obama will win Pa., but it's going to be a very close race!

3. It's quiet out there, too quiet. |
|
Seriously, here in my western PA county, the voting is usually even between Dems and Repubs in presidential contests. There are lots of McCain/Palin signs. The Catholic Bishop hurt us by exhorting the parishioners "For God's Sake, Vote!" and then pontificating that the abortion issue is of tantamount importance. Mostly, I wish the state did not have the damn electronic voting machines which leave no paper trail.

4. I'm born and raised in PA, |
|
with family still there, proud that my connections to the Keystone State have never been broken.
I will tell you that there is no way my beloved Commonwealth will go for a black man. I love where I'm from, but I know the people there, and they're all over the place. I hope I'm wrong, and I expect to see lots of Obama votes in the metropolitan areas of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
But, everywhere else, they will not vote for Obama.
I hope I'm wrong.

19. No, you are right. I lived in Pittsburgh for three yrs with my ex, who was born there. |
|
Derry/Latrobe/Greensburg area. He had relatives who were proud rednecks. Seriously doubt that they would vote for a black man.

5. I was making calls in Western Montgomery County tonight... |
|
in a fairly conservative Mennonite area. Every person I called except one was planning to vote for Obama. Now they were all registered Dems, but it seemed encouraging that only one of 50 was going to support McCain. That made me feel more confident.
Remember you can take years off your life worrying...and those might be years you really want to stick around. Seeing President Obama sworn in for his first and second terms will be a sweet sight.

6. recent rallies here in central PA; palin drew larger crowds |

than bill clinton did, I believe. It would have been nice to see Obama swing through one last time. Seems like he's always busy in Ohio these days.

seems like we haven't gotten as much attention _lately_ in central PA. (Except for Bill Clinton.) (edit...) Here it is: Palin speaks to 7500 at rally: http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2008/10/29/palin_speaks_to_7500_at_rally.aspxBill speaks to about 2000: http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2008/10/30/bill_clinton_rallies_for_final.aspxWhat the hell? Palin outdraws Bill 4-1 in a college town?

(Sorry, I just updated the message.) Maybe the student newspaper is mis-reporting, but those are the numbers.
And chill out; I'm not a troll. I'm getting up early to vote for Obama tomorrow morning.

I have been volunteering for Obama in Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties in FL for the past week and a half, and I don't even SEE a McSame ground game. These Obama people are crazy-good! I have been in 5 different offices in the area (and there are still many more!), I've canvassed and picked up absentee ballots for the elderly in nursing homes who want to vote... and everybody has said they haven't seen ANYONE from McCain camp at all!!
That my not make up for PA, but it is 27EV's we NEED!

10. Will the touchscreens bite us again? |
|
I noticed the article below from April. I hope this is not the case tomorrow. "Over 85 percent of PA voters will vote on paperless touchscreen machines that are hackable, failure-prone, and fundamentally unauditable." http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080421-pa-primary-will-be-unauditable-gop-blocks-e-voting-reform.html:argh:
