small government does not mean no government |
|
small government is one of the favorite political phrases of the right - but it does not mean no government. the word "government" is still in the phrase and the word "govern" is still part of government. govern is a verb and it means to do something, not just to let the free market run over everyone who has scruples until all that is left is those who would watch someone else's house burn down without feeling any concern except to be happy that it is not theirs.

for the demolition of social programs that help the poor, middle class, and disadvantaged. At the same time, they have few problems with the idea of creating or funding programs that help support large corporations, particularly military contractors. They also advocate, in many cases, increased power to Federal Government to curtail civil rights, such as right to privacy, all while proclaiming they are the party of freedom, the irony is lost on them.

The military budget is part of the government after all and Bush has spent more than any other president. When they say it it really means to hell with poor people who don't go to my church.
