5. I used to think it was time for a female president;
didn't even think about an African-American president!

I'm so excited!!!

3. If you would have told me two years ago
that our next president would be a black man named Barack Obama, I would have called you insane.

He couldn't have come along at a better time. I actually have hope. I haven't had that in ages.

4. It's great, but I never based my adoration of him on that.
I think he's right for all of us. He's just awesome! :woohoo:

7. I don't think pleasantly surprised really covers it
I'm amazed, joyful, honored to have been a part of history and generally in a pretty good mood for a change.

8. I AM I AM!!!
Please, A-A DUers, tell us how you feel. I'm stuck on the TX side of the red river, just south of OK, so I'm mostly surrounded by a bunch of pissed-off white people and I really want to hear your POV.

10. Thrilled and surprised. I was a child during the civil rights...
movement and grew up challenging the racism I heard around me.

I'm white, but this affects me on a very deep level. Tonight is for crying and celebrating. Tomorrow is for marveling at how far we've come as a nation.

12. Oddly enough, not surprised at all
I'm not surprised at all that Barack Obama won. I realize it is incredibly significant, the breaking down of barriers, but I think it really just came down to him being the best man for the job (not just in this election, but the best we've had since Gore - better in some ways, because Gore didn't display his true qualities until after the election, in opposition).
