What departed Democrats do you dedicate this victory to?
For me personally, my grandmother, my father, my mother and my sister were all good yellow dog Democrats.

I hope they are partying at the big garage sale in the sky, or wherever they are.

And Billie Carr, and Frankie Randolph (founders of the Harris County Democrats), Molly Ivins, Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan, Ralph Yarbrough, Henry B. Gonzalez, Helen Gahagan Douglas, FDR, Truman, Adlai Stevenson, JFK, RFK, Dr. King, Coretta King.....who else???

A Toast!!!

5. Andy
Never met him, never spoke to him, but his relentless committment stays with me till this day. He definitely made his mark on me.

They didnt (couldn't) steal this one. Somehow I think he's smiling from whatever better place he's in today.

10. My best friend, Helen P. Brown,
who gave a lot of money to Democrats and prided herself on never having voted for a Republican. Hated Chimpy Fucknuts with a beautiful, white-hot passion.

I told her tonight, as I was outside, watching the fireworks across the small city, that we won, that our new President would be named Barack Obama, and that she would have loved him.

The stars twinkled. I think that meant she heard me.....................

12. Senator Paul Simon, who long ago saw Obama's promise
And my parents, dedicated, active Democrats who I am glad did not have to live through the horror of the Bush years, but who I regret did not get to share in the most joyful Democratic election night since 1960.

15. My aunt Betty
From the moment she heard him speak in 2004, she wanted him to become President. Sadly, she didn't live to see it happen.

I think that's why my joy is touched with some sadness...because we can't celebrate with her.

Mike Webb, long suffering liberal radio talk host in Seattle, passed away a couple years ago way before his time.

18. Paul and Shiela Wellstone.
They would have loved Obama. They would have thrown themselves into this campaign with an energy and joy that would have brought the whole state of Minnesota with them.

I still miss them so much.

wistfully,
Bright
