It's going to take some time for our country to assimilate this historic election...
It's amazing to me that John McCain got as many votes as he did. The Party label is very strong indeed. Nothing - economic depression or wars - will change that. That is discouraging.

However, this is a day we must soak in and appreciate. Some people are in shock that Barack Obama will be our next President. It is going to take time for that realization to hit home.

Some will never accept that reality. They will return to their same partisan divisions as early as today. This will be President Obama's greatest challenge. He must try to heal these deep wounds of division. It is no small challenge.

But President Obama will not be like George W Bush. He will not do whatever he wants just because he can or because he has the power. He will look for common ground.

No doubt, he may even anger a few Democrats in the next few months because he will offer to work across the aisle. He will be a true "uniter". That is his legacy to fill.
