Congratulations, California.
As a citizen of Colorado, I hereby dub thee, California, the new Hate State, and pass on the crown to you.

Congratulations, passers of Proposition 8. You've earned it. :(

1. We suck.
Many of us worked our ass off on this one, but in the end there are still too many bigots in this state.

2. A sad day indeed
Not everyone here in CA voted yes, but way too many did. Hopefully with a new SC this hate law will be ruled unconstitutional and overturned. We can hope.

3. Yep...once again we worked our fucking asses off, and the mouth breathing rednecks fuck us over.

That's how we got stuck with Ah-Nold.

Is there any chance that Colorado could take the inland valley and far north off of our hands?

5. The strange coalition of Catholics, Mormons and Fundie Christians
find enough common ground to deny civil marriage rights to the people of California.

9. Stereotyping is unfair. Please don't label...
...all of us, to promote hate. I posted this earlier:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

From one in Ca. who voted 'no'...
...I am sorry for your sadness. The California Initiative process doesn't work. It's giving California a lot of bad laws.Sometimes, the people pushing an initiative are from outside our state (like T.Boone Pickens and his energy initiative). We are all getting used.

I hope you will focus on our Obama win. Our country has been lost without leadership. And they've had eight years to build up fear. It may take a little time, but we WILL work out the rest.

11. Across the nation we must look to the hope of Obama...

to keep in mind that progress eventually wins out if people are willing to work for it. I can't help but be amazed that someone who represents a triumph over bigotry is himself a bigot, but we must change Obama's mind.

14. Hit the courts!
We may have to wait until we get an additional liberal justice or two on the SCOTUS (which is reason 623629 why I'm glad Obama won - we're going to get some liberal justices) but once we know we can shout down Scalia & co., sue to have Prop. 8 shot down.

It can be done.

Colorado's Amendment 2, which would have legalized discrimination against GLBT individuals (which earned my stomping grounds the name "The Hate State",) got struck down in the courts, mostly on 14th Amendment constitutional grounds.

But be prepared for yet another long hard slog for justice.

12. I tried I am sorry I got my family to change
and vote dem for Obama but they wouldn't vote no on 8...at one point my mom said she would but another family member talked her out of it.

I'll tell you what the thing was that flipped them over, it wasn't the marriages themselves but they had kids holding signs and telling people that all school children would be taught about being gay in school if it passed. So they made it seem all scarey and like they were going to make your kids gay if you voted no on 8.

ful states in our country. What happened was sad and unfortunate but at least we are on the front lines of the struggle for right to marriage.

15. For some states, it's news when they get it wrong.
For other states, it's news when they get it right.

None of us CA DUers are happy about this outcome (:( ), but we'll fix it eventually (:patriot:)...
