Thinking about how we got here.. our better angels

What does it mean to be a proud American?

I certainly do not have pride in how slavery was written into our constitution. I certainly have no pride that women were denied the vote until 1920. I have no pride that people with disabilities, were regulated to second class citizenship, or people who are gay, are denied their rights of citizenship.

I have great pride that WE, the people are able to change our futures, and are not prisoners of our past.

President Barack Obama gives us OUR voice on a national stage.

So much is going to be expected of him, that no one human could possibly fulfill. But he can be our voice, and move us along.

It took such personal courage on his part to withstand the attacks on his citizenship, patriotism, his religion.

It took the hard work of everyone to get us here. No person could have done it without the support of "the people" I have so much pride in that.. "We the people"

It makes me proud to have such a man lead us.

I am very proud to be a part of a nation, that can reflect and move to its better angels.

I am proud to be a liberal, I am proud to be a Democrat, I am proud to be an American

2. So strange that you should post this. I had almost the exact thought about five minutes ago

as I was walking around outside.

I was thinking that the better man who let his better angels guide him personified the expression "May the best man win."

I really admire Obama for the campaign that he ran and I feel very uplifted that America also followed their better angels to the polls and were not deterred by the hate mongering and fear that was slung at them.

3. I was watching the people celebrating last night

and how wonderful it is.

How "We the people" have been able to beat back the hell hounds of hate, who go 24/7 to elect someone who can move the country

How we followed our better angels, though they tried their best to destroy us.

I am just very proud.
