Teen drag racers here illegally go back to Mexico (Interesting things to note in this story)
Teen drag racers here illegally go back to Mexico

Three East Valley students were deported to Mexico after they were caught drag racing by a Gilbert police officer who called federal immigration officials, a report released Thursday shows.

Jaime Cisneros, 16, of Chandler, who was driving a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse more than 20 miles above the posted speed limit, told an officer who pulled him over Saturday night at Guadalupe Road and Velero Street that he didn’t have a driver’s license, the report says.

“Why not?” the officer asked. “How old are you?”

“I just don’t,” the teen said. “I have a Mexican ID in my wallet, but I lost it.”

....
Ruet said that because Cisneros told officers he had a Mexican identification, it “opened the door” to inquire about the teen’s immigration status.

...
The deportations concerned Tami Smull, head of the Gilbert Human Relations Commission, who said she would bring up the issue at the group’s April meeting.

Mack said a pilot policy was started in September requiring immigration agents to respond to every request from police to pick up suspected illegal immigrants. In the past, officials only responded to the most serious cases.

Since then, the agency has responded 441 times to calls from 39 law enforcement agencies in Arizona. Only two or three of those calls have involved unaccompanied juveniles, Mack said.

In the full story it was noted that the boys 'lived with their families' and 'the parent of one of the teens was called but declined to come to the ICE station or to accompany the boy to Mexico'.

so they can just deport a minor? The two other boys we 16 and 17.

I will say though, it is pretty dumb to be speeding without a license and while here illegally :)

1. They can & have

my favorite story locally was the kid who was deported in the middle of the night, & just dropped off at the bridge in Nuevo Laredo because Immigration didn't want to wait for DIF (the Mexican counterpart to Child Protective Services) to locate the boy's family so he could be taken to there. :grr:

3. Speeding? You should see the money to be made in drag racing.
Folks out there with tens of thousands of dollars under the hood.

My house cost less that some of those cars out there.

4. Students?
One of these kids had a broken school ID from Hamilton High in Chandler. I have 2 kids that go there and they don't think that these guys were students. School ID's are real easy to obtain and many "immigrants" have them. As to the drag racing, your right about those cars! Many dollars under the hood most of it stolen. The story also notes that all 3 "children" had cell phones and were allowed to call the parents, but the parents declined to show up. Not to worry, they are all living with family in Mexico, not on some bridge.

5. This is in Arizona, BTW.
I don't think anyone said that. It's interesting the parents didn't show up. I teach in the Phoenix area and have many Latino students. I don't know if they are US citizens, here legally, or here illegally. I teach them all the best I can and don't ask or care to know about their "status" just like I don't care about that of the other students. I don't want to punish the kids for what their parents or their nation or our nation have done to them. They are still kids.

That said, it is really stupid to be drag racing to begin with and even more so to do it without papers, so to speak.

10. I will be feeling that pain soon enough
Moving from Ohio to Bakersfield, CA. And the in-laws have not any AC into the rent house.

So I am keeping my house here in Ohio, and if things get too bad, my butt is moving back :)

At least here I have AC and Heat.

15. I lived in the high desert before
Was hot there, 105 a lot. I loved it.

but yeah, fans will be all over the house, and window AC units when I can afford to buy them.

I will be working 2-3 jobs from home, so things might go better finally for me. Been a rough few months (taking time off work for FMLA unpaid will do that to you....)

16. Swamp coolers are your friends in the desert, cheaper to run too
though the HVAC contractor I know says the difference in savings is dropping.

17. I wanted to get a swamp cooler
(that's evaporative cooler to the uninitiated). The problem is the windows need to be open for it to work and not in my neighborhood! But, if one is home all day, they do make sense.

I replaced my 20+ year old AC/furnace last year with a heat pump unit and have been amazed at how much my electric bill dropped. It's more efficient, needless to say, and dang, it actually works!

19. Install upducts
well within the skills of most homeowners, and means better air flow through more rooms and it cools the attic. Another nice things about swamp coolers is that they also move a lot of air through a home.

13. So, how long until the cell phones are used to find the parents?
They can figure out an address maybe?

I'm thinking the reason no one came to get them is they'ree illegals, too.

Has it occurred to anyone that they may not have been minors?

14. I'm sorry,
I thought that was understood. Of course the parents are illegal, very likely these "children" aren't minors. If you live in a border state some things are assumed. The problem with undocumented, unlicensed, and uninsured "migrants" is that they still drive, and you better hope they don't run into you! Our family is still paying for 2 incidents.

18. I was rear ended twenty years ago by Latino immigrants.
This was in Atlanta, and between four of them they had not one piece of ID. The car had expired Texas plates.

Thankfully I had "uninsured motorist" coverage, something I've always paid a little extra for since it seems that the worst drivers on the road are uninsured.
