'D.C. Madam' Ordered Not to Sell 'Little Black Book' to Media
Any good legal minds here that can explain how they can stop her from selling her own personal property/records.

I vote, there will be more repukes on this list in the family values camp than dems.

===================================================

WASHINGTON A federal judge ruled Friday that a former escort service owner cannot sell phone records and other documents that could be used to publicly identify thousands of her clients. Her lawyer said, however, that she may give it for free to one of the many interested media outlets -- and perhaps she has already done this.

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 50, has said she planned to sell the list of up to 15,000 client phone numbers and other records to a news organization to help raise money for her defense. The alleged "D.C. Madam" ran Pamela Martin and Associates, an upscale escort service in the Washington area, for 13 years before it closed in August.

Palfrey's civil attorney, Montgomery Blair Sibley, said Friday he does not believe the judge's order bars him from distributing copies of the phone records for free.

In any event, Sibley said it's a moot point because he has already given copies of the records to an undisclosed news organization.

Sibley said the original records are preserved and nothing he has done will prevent prosecutors from inspecting all the materials.

Federal prosecutors allege that Palfrey ran a prostitution ring that yielded $2 million in assets, including cash and homes. In October, the federal government froze the assets after a 2 1/2-year investigation by the Internal Revenue Service. Palfrey is suing to have the assets returned.

U.S. District Judge Gladys Kessler issued a restraining order against Palfrey on Friday and ordered her not to sell any company records or assets. She set a hearing on the issue for Monday.

Sibley has said there were a dozen serious bidders for the 40 pounds of phone records. The bidders ranged from "checkbook journalists to the gold standard of American journalism," Sibley said. Attorneys for people who fear their names will become public have also been after the records, he said.

1. If the list itself is evidence in an open investigation or trial, a judge can block its release...
...otherwise she ought to be able to do with it whatever she damn well pleased.

3. Why don't they just let her sell it and pay off the IRS?
She may get more for selling the "little black book" than she made compiling it.

4. open for thirteen years...
While I hope there are more R's then D's on that list
keep in mind, the Dems still controlled congress
and Clinton was our president when she started the escort service.
Cross your fingers on this one. I could get ugly.

6. And what crime would that be, seeing as how there's been no trial, let alone conviction?

10. At this time...
...she is charged with the commission of a crime. IF CONVICTED, then by allowing the sale of these materials at this point in time, she then would have profited from a crime she had committed. That is the issue the judge is guarding against with his order. The judge is under a duty to guard against this happening. If she is acquitted, then she can do anything she wishes with those materials. However at the present time, since she is charged, there is a possibility that she could profit from a crime.

Sorry, I was not more clear.

9. What is going to be funny is...
If they release those names and the guilty pubby Johns play it off and lie their way out of it and then the lid gets blown off of the HookerGate case too and the same pubbies are all named as Johns in that case too!

12. A lot of divorce lawyers are gonna fight this ruling.
If she's smart, she'll "freely" give a few of the more prominent names to the press. If she releases all the info, it'll be fun to see who plays the ex-politicians in the inevitable movie.
