my brother's marching instructor (and my band student teacher for a year), who is a firefighter, was near the Pentagon that day, and when he saw the smoke he grabbed his gear and raced over there to help. He wrote a piece of music based on his experience, and we played it at our band concert that year with a slide show of images from that day...it was pretty intense.
(I don't know if that helps at all - I know it's not exactly relevant to your question, sorry!)

I just looked at a tape of what was going on at that time and it brought to mind how, the rethugs always say we must have forgotten as though the only ones involved or had some one involved were republiCONS. This is the same way they seem to look at the war as though, there are only REPUBLICONS in Iraq fighting or occupying...

Outside at Vesey Street and West St across from the towers when the first plane hit. At Murray and North End Ave when the 2nd plane hit. At West St and Canal when both towers came down.

I remember Rudy Guiliani was cowering in a basement somewhere.
Truth is there were no republicans or democrats that day... just a lot of frightened NYers who were all helping each other.
It wasn;t until that blowhard with the bullhorn blew into town to spout his bullshit from a pile of smoking rubble did things start to get political again.
Oh and fuck Rudy.. he did NOTHING.

he was killed. Left a wife and three boys, all under 10. We lived on LI at the time, everything was surreal, no way to get off the island at all, no internet for a couple of weeks. Signs in peoples car windows with people who were missing.

and worked for as a TA for a local school district. I knew a teacher who lost her husband, a little girl who lost both her Mom and Dad, and a man who worked for Cantor Fitzgerald who jumped from the 104th floor.
I also know two men, one who worked for Deutsch Bank and one who worked for Smith Barney. One was called to a last minute meeting in Jersey City and the other who "played hooky" and went to play golf. BOTH lost numerous coworkers and have had serious depression ever since.
Enough?

watching from 7th Avenue and 11th Street. I knew a few people who died and many more survivors. A lot of them don't like to talk about it.
It was a horrifying day for all New Yorkers.
