1. She deserves the support, too. A very credible testimony.
If the Rethugs had any objections, they didn't have the guts to raise them.

She's smarter than they are. By a lot.

3. NASCAR fans aren't all a bunch of stupid rednecks
It isn't my favorite thing to watch, but the people I know who watch racin' are just common folks like me.

5. I watch most of them. Caught the last 100 laps today.
NASCAR is soooooooo much better live than on television, but it's just too damn expensive for me to go much anymore.

31. I really like watching it on television
better. The last race I went to was a the Richmond Speedway and it's just too hard to see. It's great for the experience, but not to really watch the race. I will say I did love going to Bristol.

6. That's good to know, coz
where I'm from, NASCAR stickers seem to go hand in hand with W stickers. It seems to go with the Toby Keith and Larry the Cable Guy redneck entertainment fiesta.

7. Thank you...

I started watching NASCAR many years ago. I was 12, and very sick with polymiocytis. On Saturday, ABC would cover the races, this is 1971-ish... Years later my sister married a big NASCAR fan, and I was back to watching. It's great to watch, even with the massive over-commercialism of it!! I've been to one, and it's a unique experience.

That said, I think is is and has been 'fixed' on many occassions, and I can understand how some would think it silly.

Go MARK MARTIN!!!

And my hometown boy, Dave Blaney!!!

on edit: I wore a DU shirt to Charlotte Motor Speedway and even the idiots at the RNC trailer didn't realize what it said!!! The bonehead asked be if I was a registered R... I pointed to the shirt and waited for him to read it. Then another 30 seconds for him to process the info... TOO FUNNY!!!

11. thank you.
my boyfriend, a close friend and i are all nascar fans (big time) and all have college degrees. willa, an attorney, goes to 5 or 6 races a year and rick and i attend 2. i can't see how too many bubbas can afford to attend many races. it is really very expensive nowadays. that said, we DO have some friends in the business and some we meet up with at the tracks who are still koolaid drinkers.

i'm pleased to hear that there is some support for ms. plame on the website. i think i'll mosey on over and post a comment. :D

Since you posted after other DUers said they themselves are Nascar fans, I'll let your ignorance speak for itself.

37. It’s amusing how the NASCAR fans feel the need to defend their enjoyment of their ”sport”
“many race fans are liberal….drivers take people to see 911…there are millions of us… we is smart too…..blah…blah…blah” and they get all pissy and nasty if everyone doesn’t agree with them

I enjoy baseball and can’t imagine thinking it necessary to defend or qualify my fandom

What a bunch of losers

34. I'm a flamin' liberal AND a big NASCAR fan.
The two are not incompatible. Lots of NASCAR fans aren't from the South, and/or aren't Rednecks, don't drink the KoolAide, etc. I love racing because I grew up with it. Both my parents, plus several of my uncles all raced on local tracks. It bugs me that some of the stereotypes about NASCAR fans persist on this board. Not everyone is going to like it, and that's certainly cool. But not liking it, and stereotyping/blasting those who do are two different things.

I checked out the link the OP provided. It was great to see the ones who ARE drinking the KoolAide getting called on their BS.

4. shocking, actually, because a lot of times RWers dominate non-political discussion boards
especially sports-themed ones. Probably because liberals are polite enough not to ram politics into every sector of private life, while RWers have to post anywhere and everywhere to reaffirm their talking points.

8. I LOVE this one....from you Elwood?
She was very credible, is obviously extremely intelligent, and testified UNDER OATH.

She has the cred to back herself up, and it apparently has sent the 28percenters into a type of madonna/whore self-hating spin predicament.

They like how she looks, they just hate that she's smart and honest, and obviously a helluva lot tougher than ANY of them. Their idea of a woman from hell.

You GO GIRL!!

16. didn't even know
assuming you're a fan, we saw you played by Jimmy Stewart on stage in London. We had 7th row seats. We had a drink before the play and they asked if we were coming back for intermission. We say "yeah" (I guess, what did we know about the theater in London) When we went to the bar at intermission there was a table with our name on it and 4 drinks, one each, of exactly what we'd ordered before the show.

Now that's civilized.

(The play was great too.)

So you can look down on and make fun of anyone who doesn't agree with you?

People like you are the reason we're seen as out of touch with the mainstream. We don't want anyone who doesn't drive a hybrid, wear Birkenstocks and are vegetarian, is that it? We need EVERYONE in our movement. That includes "intelligent" NASCAR fans.

38. Well actually...
I grew up in Hickory, North Carolina. My uncle used to race in the late model sportman division at the Hickory Speed Way.

http://www.hickorymotorspeedway.com/

I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I've been to many events and helped keep score (lap count). The demolition derby events were a hoot.

I grew up with it. So I can poke fun at my people if I want to.

I hear you can buy a sense of humor on ebay for real cheap, maybe you should look into it.

39. This is exactly the place we need to wage battle
on every single so-called "rightwing" site. This is where we win the war. Battle by battle. I sincerely thank each person who took the time to articulately argue on behalf of Plame. Every time we expend the energy, we move the center a little more to our side. It's working.
Before, we just rolled our eyes. What do you expect? It's NASCAR. Or, it's the military. No more. People we had written off as hopelessly Busih-smitten -- aren't. They're ready to listen.
And that includes NASCAR fans and military personnel and families.
We just need to keep the facts in front of the American people and pin the opposition when they start their talk-radio blather. Call them on it. Every time.
A few will scuttle back to the darkness. But more and more are disgusted with the lies and distortions ladled out by Cheney, Bush, and Rove.
