Poor test results for Windows Vista security software
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=235185

The Windows Vista operating system offers poor protection against PC viruses. Users are advised to use supplementary security software when switching to the new Microsoft platform.

This is the recommendation of Munich-based PC Professionell magazine. 'Live One Care,' a security programme included with the operating system, proved particularly porous to trojans during the magazine's testing.

One in four bugs went unrecognized by the software and were able to install themselves unnoticed on the PC. One in 20 PC viruses also went undiscovered by the programme.

More than one in 10 spy ware programmes also went un-removed. Nor did the firewall offer much protection. When running with the default settings, it blocked only four of 20 unwanted data connections from the Internet.

1. What outsourcing?
Or is this a critique of visas for foreign skilled workers?

4. Thank you very much. This is news to me...
and PC backup and restore functions are not a place for teething problems. Mind you, people are telling me that MS not starting from scratch, but rather, building on ancient core code that has inherent issues, makes for problems that aren't fixable by Indians or Americans. Still, reading this really makes me want to know if problems have cropped up with the backup and restore features.

5. Why does someone worth 50 billion dollars
outsource work to save a few million dollars? How much damn money does he need? I realize all these Fortune 500 CEOs do it, but why?

One of the reasons they do it is because our own fucking government encourages them to do it. Even our own democrats encouraged them to do it. Robert Rubin and Bill Clinton even helped grease the skids. When the world sends us to the gallows, American CEOs will be fighting over who sells the rope to hang us.

6. Live one care is not part of the vista operating system.
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 03:08 AM by William769
It's really hard to to believe a company that can't even get it's facts straight. :eyes:

EDIT: spelling.

7. Thank you William for that observation!
Live One Care isn't part of Vista. Its a separate service that MS offers. I don't use it as I choose to use the AV and anti-spyware stuff I like. Who are these people?

9. I don't know who they are, but in my opinion they are not to be trusted.
I just spent 3 grand on a new Computer, I also have Windows Vista Ultimate, and Yes I am using Live one care that I purchased separately. I can assure you that with this type of investment I put live one care through the ringer before using it on my new system.

12. Perhaps you need a new wringer?
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 06:27 AM by Dead_Parrot
Foundstone (a division of Macaffee), Agnitum, Virus Bulletin (a Sophos partner) and AV comparatives all found problems with LOC when they put it through their wringers.

Or do you not trust them, either?

8. Naw, who woulda' thunk it!
Windows having poor security, say it isn't so:eyes:

Frankly I fail to see why this is even news anymore. Most people I know simply assume that if it's a new OS from MS, then it is going to have piss poor security, be incredibly buggy, and probably best not to purchase for a long while, if ever.

11. run like hell from Vista--in addition to this problem of porosity,
see this article on how it will eat up your premium content and act as a giant piece of spyware and a censor: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6319845.stm
