Prop H8 Action in Greensboro - Cross-Post from NC and GLBT Forums
for visibility. There are a lot of Triad DU'ers and if I can catch your eyes outside the less-traveled forums, hopefully we can get a good attendance. I appreciate everyone's support, DU-wide, and the indulgence of the mods so long as this thread might last or float up on its own merits. The outpouring of love and support for our LGBTQ friends in California has been tremendous. Here on the opposite coast, we're standing with and for you folks out there.

So long as we remain invisible, the right-wing extremists will keep steamrolling right over us. Then who will be next? There are actions going on nationwide this Saturday. Let everyone know what you're doing.

So, I'm cross-posting this with permission from the local coordinator in Greensboro in hopes of boosting attendance.

GOOD NEWS!!!

WE GOT THE PERMIT!!!! YAY!!!!

Now... here's a few things to cover before Saturday.

THE RULES: If you do NOT adhere to these rules you WILL be asked to leave IMMEDIATELY!!!

1) No alcohol, drugs, weapons of ANY kind. If you've got them, you will be sent away. If a POLICE officer sees you with them, you might have to deal with him/her.

2) There's a SLIGHT chance of a counter protest. If there is, then they have the right to be there, just like us. You MUST, MUST, MUST be respectful, but also be strong!

3) Signs: The sign itself must be posterboard or something flexable. Nothing hard. If you want a stick to hold the sign up it can be NO LONGER than 6" and NO THICKER than 1 1/4". You may NOT use anything on your person as a weapon.

4) A PEACEFUL Protest means PEACEFUL. No cursing, there may be children around (yes the occasional might slip out, but don't just blurt it out on purpose). We want to show that we ARE family oriented (the idea we're fighting against is that we will somehow "destroy" the family image). Let's break down that image peacefully.

5) HAVE FUN!!! They'll be drummers. We can sing, dance, be as GAY as you want to be (I know I sure will).

We will be across the street from the Carolina Theatre at 300 Washington Street at 1:30pm (meet around 1:20pm to get all your stuff together).

PARKING: Parking should be free on Saturday in the Greene Street Parking deck.

ALSO, Police WILL be there (both uniform and civilian clothed). So be GOOD! Sgt. Richtie is my contact and he's been VERY supportive of our efforts.

If you have any other questions or directions, e-mail me back or call me at xxxxxxxxxx.

-Mike

PS: Remember to SPREAD THE WORD!

In lieu of publishing Mike's email or phone number, please PM me and I'll be happy to provide it. I'd also appreciate kicks and recs to boost attendance -- and, of course, your attendance. My partner and I will be there.

The Greensboro PD are being very supportive. We'll need to have a nose-count beforehand so they'll know how many officers to send to keep the nuts on their side of the street away from us. Please check in with Mike before you go so he can coordinate with Sgt Richtie.
