10. Giving CNN the benefit of the doubt, I think maybe what they're trying to show
is that people with a lot of life experience, who have lived through several wars in which the U.S. was engaged, believe this war is a colossal mistake.

Not that you need a lot of life experience to know that, but the fact that he's a veteran really puts the message across.

57. I wonder if The Hamper can still fit into his uniform?
Oh, now I remember. He never had a uniform. He avoided the draft and did not serve.

"So many minority youths had volunteered ... that there was literally no room for patriotic folks like himself."

http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html

Veterans don't have a monopoly on wisdom about war, but I just can't get over how many of these chickenhawks there are. People who never served, talking about how 'brave' they are about sending other peoples' sons and daughters to be killed and maimed.

20. OMG. Now I'm in tears.
Probably because my dad fought the Nazis too (he's been dead since 1975, at age 60).

And because 88 is so OLD to have to be doing that.

And because he shouldn't have to be doing that at all.

And because we couldn't fulfill OUR responsibilities and stop this damn war.

And because Bush not only won't listen to us now, or in November, but thumbs his nose at us and sends MORE troops. And how the HELL are we going to get OUR fascist out of power?

Shit. I can't stop blubbering.

38. My thoughts exactly
Where is that Bushbot bitch (I apologize in advance for using the word "bitch", but there isn't any other way to describer her) with the purple bandaid on her face at the Republic National Convention in '04?

I'd like to put the two pictures together to show the difference between Democratic and Republic support for the troops (if you can call what the Republics are doing "support"). One is a demeaning upper-crust ignoramus who makes fun of war heros like Kerry while supporting their war-dodging warmongering Bush. The other is wise enough to understand the waste of life going on in the middle east.

Iraq is more like Vietnam than anything else. There was no justification for the Iraq war like there was in WWII. There was no genocidal dictator hell bent on taking over the world in Iraq like there was in WWII. I'm glad to see this picture.

I remember telling one of my sister's on 9/11 that I was glad Dad hadn't lived to see it, because it would have broken his heart. I see that look in this man's face...he is truly heartbroken over what has happened to the country he was willing to die for. Proud as hell, but brokenhearted. Hang in there, sir. 43. A genuine patriot.
My family is steeped in WW II service: My father served in the army in Germany, my uncle was a Navy man and one-time crewman of the Arizona, and my other uncle was a pilot in the British Royal Air Force. I remain deeply proud of their service while, at the same time, recognizing this war for the giganitic frack-up it is, just as this brave man does.

49. He reminds me of my own grandfather, who got drafted into
the Army late in WW II at the ripe old age of 36, with a wife and child at home. They shipped him off to invade Japan, but while they were sailing west of Hawaii we dropped the bomb, and instead of certain death in the invasion, he relaxed in the Phillippines for a year guarding Japanese POWs.

He was fairly conservative, but I suspect he would have loathed Bush. He'd be 99 this year.....

50. This man speaks for my *late* father.
he left college to volunteer (predraft) for WWII. He passed in 1992. He believed in the cause (both arenas) of WWII. But he recognized the difference between WWII and later conflagorations that were sold ala WWII rhetoric.

He was against Vietnam and the first Gulf War.

He passed away long before Bushjr was eleceted and long before the "preemptive war" doctrine of bushjr was pushed, and accepted by the MSM. But given his opposition to both Vietnam and the first Gulf War - I feel pretty secure in asserting that this man represents my late father (who would be 86 were he still alive.) On my father's behalf - I thank this vet. His voice represents many who can no longer speak for themselves.

They were busy whipping Hitler's ass.

My old man was in the Army Air Corps (before it was a separate branch as the Air Force, for you children out there), 483rd Bombardment Group.

S. Sgt. who worked on Norden Bombsights, the great technological achievement of the war. He was so valuable he couldn't go into combat, in a crate known as a B-17, which is amazing to me for a lowly non-com. Two Bronze Stars.

He said they had lots of "ugly Italian girls" they "had to frisk" that were "dangerous"..... And my answer was: Yeah, Dad, you won't tell me what they would do for a Hershey bar.....
