Christopher Bond calls Valerie Plame Wilson a liar
As Mrs. Wilson told her story, some members and staff of the Senate Intelligence Committee watched with great interest. As part of its probe into pre-war intelligence, the committee interviewed Valerie Plame Wilson for the portions of the committee’s report dealing with the Niger uranium matter. At that time, as now, the question of how the CIA chose Joseph Wilson for the Niger trip was a subject of great interest. But Missouri Republican Sen. Christopher Bond, vice chairman of the committee, says Mrs. Wilson did not tell the committee about the young junior officer, the call from the vice president’s office, or the passing CIA official who suggested Joseph Wilson’s name.

“Friday was the first time we have ever heard that story,” Sen. Bond said in a statement to National Review Sunday evening. “Obviously if we had, we would have included it in the report. If Ms. Wilson’s memory of events has improved and she would now like to change her testimony, I’m sure the committee staff would be happy to re-interview her.”

For those who followed the Senate investigation, the young-junior-officer story was not the only surprise in Mrs. Wilson’s House testimony. In addition to saying that her office received a call from the vice president’s office, Mrs. Wilson flatly denied playing a role in choosing her husband for the trip to Niger. “I did not recommend him. I did not suggest him,” she testified. The Senate Intelligence Committee report, which concluded that she had indeed suggested her husband for the trip, was simply wrong, Mrs. Wilson testified. In particular, what she called a “quick e-mail” describing her husband’s qualifications for the trip was “taken out of context” by the committee to “make it seem as though I had suggested or recommended him.”

In response to an inquiry from National Review Online Friday, Sen. Bond disputed Mrs. Wilson’s memory. “We have…checked the memorandum written by Ms. Wilson suggesting her husband to look into the Niger reporting,” Bond said in a statement. “I…stand by the Committee’s finding that this memorandum indicates Ms. Wilson did suggest her husband for a Niger inquiry. Because the quote obviously does not represent the entirety of the memorandum, I suggest that the House Government Reform Committee request and examine this memorandum themselves. I am confident that they will come to the same conclusion as our bipartisan membership did.”

In addition, Mrs. Wilson testified that a CIA reports officer, who the Senate committee says told investigators that Mrs. Wilson had “offered up” her husband’s name for the trip, later told her, Mrs. Wilson, that the committee had got it all wrong. “He came to me almost with tears in his eyes,” she testified. “He said his words have been twisted and distorted.” She testified that the reports officer wrote a memo to correct the record — it is not clear to whom the memo was given — but that the CIA would not let him speak to committee investigators a second time.

Bond responded to that description of events, too. “We have checked the transcript of the comments made to the committee by the former reports officer and I stand by the committee’s description of his comments,” the senator said. “If the reports officer would like to clarify or change his remarks, I’m certain that the committee would welcome his testimony.”

Finally, Bond said flatly, “I stand by the findings of the committee’s report on the Niger-Iraq uranium information, including the information regarding Mr. and Mrs. Wilson.”

22. If you listened to Plame on Friday - she didn't even suggest Wilson
for the job. Someone in the CIA suggested Joe and then asked Valerie if she would talk to him about the trip. She testified under oath - that it was a subordinate that suggested Joe and HER supervisor agreed and ask her to have him come in and talk.

Even their "facts" are lies taken, skewed and then re-packaged as more egregious lies.

10. Then why did only TWO other Senators agree with your 'finding' Sen. Bond? Not even the other GOPs
on the Intel panel would sign on to your piece of lying crap 'conclusions' that you ADDED to the report and that just happened to coincide with Rove'a talking points against Wilson at the time?

I think Fitzgerald should subpoena Pat Roberts, Kit Bond, and Orrin Hatch so they can provide the evidence they used to draw their conclusions about Wilson in their ADDENDUM to the report.

17. Christopher Bond, along with Orrin Hatch and Sam Brownbeck
wrote a memo and had it inserted into the official record of the 9/11 Report, claiming that Plame sent her husband to Niger to investigate a yellow cake purchase by Saddam.

43. I think you're confusing the reports
I think the report in question is an addendum that Bond, Hatch and Roberts added to a Senate Intelligence Committee report. Only those three signed the addendum...but the rightwing noise machine, claiming it to be a "bipartisan" report, has used it ad nauseum to prove Plame sent her husband to Niger.

Oh, and, Bond is a fucking drunk.

12. Can someone please explain to me....
why, if nepotism played a role in Joseph Wilson being sent to Niger to investigate whether or not Saddam Hussein sought to buy uranium, does that make a difference in what he subsequently found?

I don't get why whether or not Valerie Plame recommended her husband to go to Niger is a big deal. If she did, so what?

27. because it was a conspiracy by Gore donors
To disgrace the president. Can't you see?

I mean, Valerie planned to send her husband to the posh paradise of Niger so he could find nothing. And she also knew that he would come back with a report saying he found nothing, and then when that happened, she knew that Bush would still put that information into those 16 words in his State of the Union address, and then she knew that when Bush invaded Iraq he would find no WMD. So, then she knew her husband Joe could write an op-ed piece in the NY Times 6 months later where he criticized the insertion of those 16 words...

23. I'd like to see the memo.
I can't believe anything that comes out of a Republican's mouth. Produce the memo so we can verify what it says before we decide it makes any difference.
Personally I don't see where it matters who sent Joe Wilson. All that matters is that he came back with the truth and that truth still stands. Bush made a claim and that claim has never been shown to be a fact. Who sent Joe Wilson or rather who suggested Joe Wilson go to Niger is nothing more than trivia and has no bearing on the facts. Bush lied to the American people and that lie has resulted in the deaths of over 3200 Americans and over 100,000 Iraqi's with no end in sight.

31. If they spent a 10th of the energy they spend trying to slander the Wilsons
on finding out where the forged Niger documents came from and what the President knew and when he knew it about the lie he told in the SOTU speech, we might actually have arrived at something important. Whether Valerie Plame lied or not, whether she has a faulty memory or not, whether Joe Wilson was sent by his wife, the CIA, or the VP, it doesn't matter. What matters is how this nation went to war based on a vast and detailed set of lies coming out of nearly everyone's mouth in the Bush Administration.
