Dear World:
The United States of America, your quality supplier of ideals of liberty and democracy, would like to apologize for its 2001-2008 service outage.
The technical fault that led to this eight-year service interruption has been located, and the parts responsible for it were replaced Tuesday night, November 4. Early tests of the newly-installed equipment indicate that it is functioning correctly, and we expect it to be fully functional by late January 2009.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the outage, and we look forward to resuming full service --- and hopefully even to improving it in years to come.
Thank you for your patience and understanding,
The USA

5. Please, don't pretend the Bush years were only an interruption... |
|
...of America otherwise being "your quality supplier of ideals of liberty and democracy".
Yeah, tell that to the people of Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Grenada, Chile, Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodja, Iraq and many, many other countries... I'm sure they were mighty pleased with the US under Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush and Clinton... After all, who doesn't like their democratically elected government overthown and replaced with 20 years of dictatorship? And what about those invasions! :eyes:

but unfortunately I have to agree with Dutch Liberal on this. The Bushies were just more open about their policies.

11. What about the Clinton years, then? |
|
You know how Bush has set up secret CIA prisons in Eastern Europe where people are abducted to, to be tortured? It's nothing more than a continuation of the program Clinton set up, called the 'extraordinary rendition program'. That meant terror suspects could be abducted from their home countries and transported to places like Egypt, Morocco etc. where they would be tortured.
What about the weekly bombardments on Iraq when Clinton was in office? United Nations estimates show over half a million people died because of it. How about the economic sanctions against Iraq in the 1990's? Saddam Hussein was unaffected, but for the innocent citizens it was a disaster, making it hard for them to get their hands on e.g. medical care.
What about the deals Clinton made with the Taliban? When he was president, an official delegation of the Taliban government was invited to the US, to Texas (where Bush was governor). The Taliban received millions of dollars in 'foreign aid' when Clinton was in power.
