Does anyone know the story behind that Hillary as "Big Sister" ad?
You know the one...the Apple ad from the 1984 Super Bowl that portrays mindless drones watching Big Brother on a large screen. Only this time they have Hillary up on the big screen. I think Keith was going to talk about it, but I missed that segment. Then Joe Scarborough started his show by saying that it was put out by Barak Obama's people. I find that really hard to believe. Has anyone heard more about it?

1. Either a very talented Obama supporter made it or... GOP?

6. I don't think it would have taken much talent...
*I* couldn't have made it. But then again, I don't have an iMac.

Somebody took an existing professionally made ad, spliced in footage of Clinton and added an Obama logo at the end. *Anybody* could have made it.

2. Story from SF Chronicle here
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/03/19/BAGSFONU1A16.DTL

Just who is ParkRidge47 – the mystery figure who introduced an Internet political attack ad that has stirred the press and political junkies tuned into the early presidential campaign – and what does the videomaker have against Democratic front-runner Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton?

The political question of the week is the identity of the anonymous person who reworked the classic 1984 ad introducing the Apple Macintosh computers to the world into a biting attack piece against Clinton – and posted it on the popular YouTube Web site.

... Chris Finnie, a Santa Cruz-based Democratic operative, said the widespread coverage given to the "mashup" in GOP circles suggests the ad could have come from a Republican operative and smacks of "Swift Boat" tactics used in 2004 against Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry.

"It killed two birds with one stone," she said, by sharply attacking Clinton as being a political drone and smudging "Obama's positioning as the 'Mr. Clean' of politics. This is politics as usual, and by running a smear ad that is associated with him, it puts a dent in that image."

3. My take: The GOP is behind this
This ad has set a dangerous precedent.
Now the GOP can make up an ad "supporting" X democratic candidate who smears "Y" Democratic opponent; this will only weaken Democratic unity between candidates and set us up for defeat in '08.

Ask the media to be responsible and stop calling this the "Obama ad".

5. Romney or McCain
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 10:55 PM by antiimperialist
Forgot that McCain hired a smear artist, responsible for the smears against Harry Ford in Tennessee, to serve as a strategist to his campaign?

When have you seen Democrats trying to smear Republicans with vicious baseless attacks? It's a Republican thing and they don't care if they do it to their own. See Bush push-polling against mcCain in a recent campaign.

9. It's unknown who made the video
Obama's people are denying that they're behind it; I don't think they are, either. Keith's and all the other stories I've seen have yet to discover who made the video.

11. I really don't think Obama is behind it, I agree
How stupid would it be for Obama's camp to make a video branding it with "barackobama.com"...and then DENY it?
