a disturbing view of "compassionate conservatism" in ohio
not the story, but read the wingnut comments after the story:

http://www.daytondailynews.com/b/content/oh/story/business/2008/11/25/ddn112508joblessweb.html

kinda makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Especially as I'm going to be layed off for the first time in my life, after working continuously since 1981, and will probably have to use unemployment until I get a job.

nice to know people out there are pulling for us! :sarcasm:

8. It's Latin for
"Don't let the bastards wear you down" - best of luck, hope you find a good job soon!

2. I've been unemployed
and it is not something I liked. I have hope that Obama will create sustainable jobs and that you will get one.

While you're looking for work, one thing you might wish to do is volunteer somewhere. It keeps up your spirits because you are "working" for folks who really appreciate and want you there, and it could lead to contacts (and references) to help you get another job.

Best of luck to you.

3. I read the comments. So, these are the people we are supposed to reach across the aisle to?
Read those comments and then tell me that we should persue anything other than a take-no-prisoners approach to government. Stomp on the Republicans and grind them into the mud.

I remember the thirties and my father making $8 a week, we didn’t live on Welfare but on our resourcefulness—Learn to live within your means, suck it up and quit blaming the govt. for the mess you are in. The next time you get a job learn to save your money. I think this is a good thing, a time of learning.

May he and his suffer every hardship and degradation that he wishes for all those who are now suffering because of situations and conditions not of their own making, not under their control.

10. Sometimes I'm just really freaked out by how stupid a LOT of
these people are. I always heard that nature abhors a vacuum. Why don't we hear the popping of little pin heads all over the place.

They could play dueling skull caps with the Hillary haters.

11. They are just repeating the old Reagan lie's about welfare queens
living off the fat of the land. Notice the same old myth's about the old welfare system, poor people don't want to do nothing but sit at home, watch cable TV and play on their computers, it's a choice they make instead of pounding the pavement seeking work. These nit wits fail to see that if the job doesn't provide enough to support a family then it's not worth taking the job and being kicked off state aid.

These same nit wits also fail to give credit where credit is due, it was a republicon who came up with the old welfare system ( tricky Dick Nixon ) that punished poor for being poor and kept them out of the work force, remember the old system was all or nothing. Either you were supported 100% by welfare or you were expected to support self 100% off any job you started, even if said job didn't provide a working wage. That is what caused 2nd and 3rd generation welfare poor.

Notice that they keep talking about people spending money on things they can't afford as the reason for poverty. Old con trick accuse others of what you are guilty of and paint it with the broad brush of all. Remember in todays world one doesn't beat the pavement looking for work, everything is based around the home computer without an inter net connection one can not apply for a job.

The other thing they do is compare american poor with third world poor. Americans are not poor, they have cars, a telephone, houses, computers, cable TV, they are not poor. They have been to central america I have seen poor people. Of course they over look the homeless people when they spew their sewage, and their first hand knowledge of the third world is what they seen on TV ads put out by aid groups, but it sounds better to them if they say they have first hand knowledge.

The funny thing is, when their lives are ripped apart by job loss or illness, they are the first ones with their hands out yelling the loudest about not getting what they deserve.
