Progressive is a means to an end, not an end by itself |

I can't believe people actually talk about how Obama isn't catering enough to progressives. DAMN! Obama doesn't have to cater to me. Nor do I consider progressive some sort of club and Obama has to appoint my club members. I am an American and a member of the human race first and foremost. I am labeled a progressive because I believe in equal rights and respect for EVERYONE. I am labeled a progressive because I want to see everyone get a fair chance. I am labeled a progressive because I think those that are in need should get assistance. I am labeled a progressive because I think we should treat mother earth with respect. I am labeled a progressive because I believe in tolerance. It is those beliefs and goals that are important to me, not the label of progressive. As such, I am far more concerned that President Obama takes care of people, brings our nation back to a peaceful existence. I don't give a rat's ass if he appoints progressives, moderates or conservatives. What I am concerned about is state of our Country, it's people and the rest of the world. He has laid out a vision for where he wants to take the nation and it's a vision I share and like. I am extremely happy that he is trying to be the President of all Americans, that he is trying to unite and be bipartisan. That agrees with my belief in fairness and respect for all. I don't keep a score card of what he does for "progressives". The ONLY thing I care about is what he does for Americans and the other inhabitants of this planet.

2. You should LISTEN once in awhile |
|
if you did you would have heard Obama say, in no uncertain terms, where the change and leadership will be coming from.

5. The vision for change comes from him? So if Obama died of a heart attack, then |
|
change would be dead also?
Not for me it wouldn't.
Maybe for you it would, Joker.

8. it's kind of like the Sarah Palin pick from McCain |

We are supposed to believe Obama's gonna do the right thing, go in the right direction. However, the only things he has done so far - protect Lieberman, keep Robert Gates, pick a hawkish Secretary of State, pick Rubineconomists to key financial positions, and waffle on reversing the Bush tax cuts - they all seem to be the wrong things. It's like having faith in a quarterback who throws four straight interceptions. Okay, sure, he's gonna lead us to victory, but a few completions, much less a touchdown, would give us a little bit more confidence here.
I guess a good moderate Republican President is better than the alternative, but it really isn't what I wanted for Christmas.
BTW, the New Deal did not just come from FDR. It came from Frances Perkins too.

9. Hmmm... so let me get this straight |
|
showing mercy and forgiveness to Liberman
keeping the same Secratary of Defense while in the middle of two wars
picking a SOS who received 18 MILLION DEMOCRATIC VOTES
picking the best and the brightest economic minds
being willing to adjust his thinking and views, based on changing circumstances
are all "wrong things"
sorry but I just don't see it that way.
A better analogy would be losing faith in a quarter back with 10 straight wins, because you don't like his touch down celebrations.
What you want is your liberal ass kissed. Obama laid out a very progressive vision for our nation. The only thing he hasn't done is kiss liberal ass, at the expense of national unity (which was a major promise he made).

it's not about doing things for progressives, it's about implementing the kind of policies that progressives want. Presumably we want those things, not because they are gonna personally benefit us, but because they benefit America or the world.
I don't really care if he is trying to unite. It's when he 'unites' the same way Bush does or Pelosi does - by doing things their way. Sure, let's compromise with the Republicans, just like Pelosi. First, we give away the house, the car, and ten million dollars and Republicans give something in return, something like a coupon for $5 off a $200 purchase at the nearest Circuit City. That's the kind of fair trade and compromise we have gotten in the last 8 years and it seems to be the road we are going down. First, they feed the fat cats, and then if there are any crumbs left over for working people, they will be allowed to trickle down.
