Another "war" the U.S. is losing |
|
As we all know, the war in Iraq is going badly and we need to resolve this quagmire and the sooner the better. But there is a long running war that the U.S. is also losing, and that is the "war on drugs". There is absolutely no reason that a college kid who otherwise does nothing against the law, gets locked up for doing some drugs. Especially when baby raperrs and other dregs are getting 5 years for heinous crimes. It sounds like the opium smuggling industry is rolling along almost unabated as well as the cocaine importing. Here in our city, the police recently found two guys slumped over in a car as a result of bad heroin. Charges are pending against the two guys, without a lot of regard to their health. Instead of always locking up drug offenders, why not try some education about the harm that drugs can do to a person's health as well as their financial well being? Now just for the record, I no longer do drugs, although I used to. I quit due to various reasons, not the least was employment. But that isn't really relevant here. The point is that America needs a reformed drug policy. Hit those who rob and kill people with harsh prison sentences, but for those who are just users and get caught, try education rather than punishment. And as for paraphernalia sellers, such as Tommy Chong, why incarcerate them? They are trying to earn a living, what people choose to do with the water pipes, etc., is entirely up to them.

1. The GOP is not losing the Drug War |
|
As in any War they are Profiteers and boy howdy have they ever profited. Do you think drugs would be anywhere nearly as expensive if they were not illegal? Do you think so many Black men would be in Prison without the "Drug War"? GOP is profiting quite well in this war. They certainly are not losing. You seem to confuse the GOP as being a part of America. They could care less about America or it's citizens unless of course they are millionaires.

Corporations and the GOP will end the drug war, imho. As soon as alcohol and tobacco and police unions decide they can profit from regulation, the GOP will end the drug war. All the GOP needs is corporate approval.
