TPM Muckraker treasure trove of nuggets from the DOJ doc dump
400 + comments and counting with specific reference to .pdf file and page numbers generated by a force now way more potent than any scumbag politico has ever had to encounter - "We the People ..." + them dang internets ;)

For instance:

1-4

On Page 18, Michael Elston writes to Kyle Sampson (and others, including Paul McNulty) ----

Kyle:

Kevin Ryan's FAUSA, Emui Choi, just called to let us know that Kevin is not returning calls from Sen. Feinstein or Carol Lam and doing his best to stay out of this. He wanted us to know that he's still a "company man." I gave her my talkers for McKay and Charlton and asked her to convey them to Kevin.

2. I caught this comment at TPM and it's worth pondering
With that said, I would not take my eye off the ball and get myself buried in thousands and thousands of emails that can be interpreted in thousands of different ways. Intentionally or otherwise, it is a great diversion.

Once again, this Administration is attempting to manipulate the media and the American people. They want this story to die. If these emails are accepted as they are presented by this White House, they will argue that these USA's were dismissed for performance reasons. After all, the "emails" prove it.

It's a shell game. The nut is under another shell. Do not be deceived. There is much, much more here. Bush and Rove will be protected at all costs. Gonzales will not be thrown overboard so easily. There will be a PR campaign and a propaganda blitz to save him. Bet on it.

The best thing to do is to keep the heat on by investigating and asking questions...and putting these folks under oath. This is our government they are criminalizing. Do not buy this email diversion by this White House. They are not going to give you anything that incriminates them. If they are the source, you should immediately doubt their validity.

We will see their strategy unfold before the day is over, most likely. They will vet it thru the Limbaugh program and thru FOX news. Just keep your ears open...

3. I agree that the email dump was supposed to be a diversion, but
I think burried in those emails are many things that incriminate them...atleast cause enough doubt to do further investigation!

9. Yes, and furthermore, I hope the internet is scouring the e-mails & forwarding
the appropriate ones to the committees. The Dems have more "hands on deck" with the bloggers than they can possibly hire in the form of aides and staffers.

Keep looking through the e-mails, cyberpoliticos, and help this congress out!!

Taking our country back, one e-mail at a time!

4. Christy at FDL: "Jeebus, these people never, ever learn, do they?"

and sent to then-White House counsel Harriet Miers. The reference to Fitzgerald is in a portion of the memo that Justice has refused to turn over to Congress, officials told The Washington Post, speaking on the condition of anonymity because Fitzgerald's ranking has not been made public.…

Mary Jo White, who supervised Fitzgerald when she served as the U.S. attorney in Manhattan and who has criticized the firings, said ranking him as a middling prosecutor "lacks total credibility across the board."

"He is probably the best prosecutor in the nation — certainly one of them," said White, who worked in the Clinton and Bush administrations. "It casts total doubt on the whole process. It's kind of the icing on the cake."

Fitzgerald has been widely recognized for his pursuit of criminal cases against al-Qaeda's terrorist network before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and he drew up the official U.S. indictment against Osama bin Laden. He was named as special counsel in the CIA leak case in December 2003 by then-Attorney General John D. Ashcroft, who had recused himself.

Fitzgerald also won the Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service in 2002 under Ashcroft.

Do the words under cover of other firings have meaning for anyone else? And why the refusal to turn this portion of the memo over to Congress? Because the placement of Patrick Fitzgerald on that list — a man who has secured a conviction for Osama Bin Laden, among many, many others, show it to be the ludicrous political hack job that it was in firing these USAs? of the way back in 2005, now would they? Jeebus, these people never, ever learn, do they?

There were over 3,000 pages of e-mails dumped late yesterday, and has readers sifting through them as I type. I know that a number of our readers were also talking about reading through them yesterday, so feel free to leave information on what you've been finding in the comments below as well. There is so much information out there, that it will take a collective effort to dig through it all — any help on this is much appreciated.

It seems AG Gonzales is not so happy with his deputy, McNulty, , and this from the – apparently being honest with Congress that the USA in Arkansas had been fired to clear the way for Rove's crony selection was frowned upon by the AG. (Shocking, I know.) When you add in the increased tension from , the DoJ is becoming quite the Peyton Place and, vis a vis the White House political operations (read: Rove and his minions), the tension is mounting.

Good stuff in the comments ... and, as to "the tension is mounting" ... the vastness of the criminality of the Bush regime will keep the tension level peg'd for a very long time ...

Did you resign voluntarily? Were you told why you were being asked to resign? Who told you? When did they tell you? What did they say? Did you ever talk to Tim Griffin about his becoming U.S. Attorney? What did Griffin say? Did Griffin ever talk about being AG appointed and avoiding Senate confirmation? Were you asked to resign because you were underperforming? If not, then why?

10. Per Jane Hamsher - jukeboxgrad has created a searchable version of the DOJ email dump
<clip>

, the firewall Arlen Specter threw up at the Judiciary Committee preventing meaningful senatorial oversight will no doubt be in for a heapin' helpin' o' blame.

And for those on document dump watch — our good friend , who did such amazing work deconstructing the disingenous stories the Washington Post told about the reader comments following l'affair Deborah Howell, is at it again. He has created a searchable version of the DOJ email dump, a merged Adobe compilation of the PDFs that have been released.

He has in his dKos diary.

Thank you - once again - jukeboxgrad!!!

11. Paul Kiel: "Some gems:"

-- Ousted U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was lauded as a "diverse up-and-comer" in 2004.

-- Karl Rove's former aide was apparently a party to the scheme to have him installed as the U.S. attorney without Senate confirmation.

-- And the documents actually show DoJ officials brainstorming on the reasons that they'd fired the USAs.

Oh my ....

... political hit!!!!

I posted early on 7-10 a letter dated 4/1/05 signed by 6 of 13 County Council memebers of {King} County Washington alleging voter fraud in 04 Wash. gen. elect. Only ones to sign were Republicans.

7-11 pages 3-9
Letter dated 4/7/05 to AG Gonzo in support of above letter which included specific allegations of voter fraud. Letter by Bob Williams (former Republican candidate for Wash. Cong. & Gov. ) of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation. Evergreen is a right wing "think tank" that receives a large portion of it's funding from right wing foundations i.e. Sarah Scaife Found, Carthage Found. (Scaife controlled), The Lynde and Harry Bradley Found., Walton Family Foundation, etc.. Much of their work is done by Republican operatives.

7-11 page 11-13
Letter dated 2/3/06 by Bob Williams of Evergreen FF to AG Gonzo with charges of malfeasance against John McKay for not conducting investigation on voter fraud. Asks that McKay recuse himself and DOJ appoint attorney from Public Integrity Sec. of DOJ to investigate. Asks if McKay unwilling to recuse himself his asks that POTUS remove him from office.

7-11 page 14-16
Letter dated 6/20/05 to Assistant Inspect. Gen. requesting investigation of John McKay for malfeasance by refusing to act on "evidence" of voter fraud.

7-11 page 17-18
Letter dated 12/2/05 to Seattle office of the FBI
by Robert M.Edelman with "evidence" of voter fraud uncovered by Stefan Sharkansky. Sharkansky is a right wing blogger with his own site called Shark Blog.

7-11 page 20
Letter dated 12/14/06 by John McKay tendering his resignation to AG Gonzo.

The voter fraud goes back to the very close Governors race in 2004. The word on the street is that because the Republican Party had a Repub. Sec. of State, Repub. Co. Prosecutor, and a Repub. USA the Republican activists were livid that the governorship slipped from their fingers. Somebody had to pay. McKay was a targeted political hit.

Keeping in mind Josh Marshall's advice to focus on Lam:

March 9, 2006

Bush signs the USA Patriot Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005.

April 14

Sampson to Friedrich: remove and replace Chiara, Cummins and Lam. Two others on original list have left. (1.7 Yang?)

May 11

Sampson to Kelley: call me to discuss real problem with Lam

June 1

From: Sampson, Kyle
Sent: Thursday, June 01, 2006 5:25 PM
To: Mercer, Bill (ODAG)
Cc: Elston, Michael (ODAG)
Subject: San Diego Immigration Enforcement

Importance: High

Bill, this relates (certainly in the AG's mind) to the email I just sent to Elston (cc to you) re our pressing need to, in the very short-term, generate some deliverables on immigration enforcement, and in the long-term, insulate the Department from criticism by improving our numbers. AG has given additional thoughts to the SD situation and now believes that we should adopt a plan -- something like the following:

- Have a heart-to-heart with Lam about the urgent need to improve immigration enforcement in SD;
- Work with her to develop a plan for addressing the problem -- to include alteration of prosecution thresholds; additional DOJ prosecutors; additional DHS SAUSA resources; etc.
- Put her on a very short leash;
- If she balks on any of the foregoing or otherwise does not perform in a measurable way by July 15 , remove her.
- AG then appoints new USA from outside the office.

This seems to me like the sort of thing for ODAG and EOUSA to execute. Can you think about how to do this right, tune up my plan/list of bullets, and be prepared to (1) present such plan to the AG tomorrow or early next week for his approval and (2) execute the plan next week?
