Why? Because, typically, conservative policies are about to ruin the economy and attempt to grab power.

Telling Parliament that Ottawa is on the cusp of a deficit even before a planned stimulus package, the Harper government unveiled a $15.1-billion restraint program that includes a three-year suspension of civil servants' right to strike and a big selloff of Crown assets.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty announced that Ottawa is on track next year to run the smallest budget surplus since it emerged from deficit in 1997-1998, but warned this $100-million in spare cash could quickly disappear.
