In KY, a requirement was established that Homeland Security credit God with keeping the state safe..
Lawmaker to Homeland Security: Don't forget to credit God for keeping Kentuckians safe. A lawmaker is upset with his state's Department of Homeland Security for its lack of credit to a "higher power" for its work in protecting the state's citizens.

Kentucky State Rep. Tom Riner, a Southern Baptist minister who helped establish a requirement that the federally funded agency credit God with keeping the state safe, is upset that under Gov. Steve Beshear, the department's 2008 annual report did not do so."We certainly expect it to be there, of course," Riner, of Louisville, told the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Among the requirements of the 2006 anti-terror law is that a plaque be placed in the department's Emergency Operations Center. Part of the statement on the plaque reads: "The safety and security of the Commonwealth cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon Almighty God."

"This is recognition that government alone cannot guarantee the perfect safety of the people of Kentucky," Riner added. "Government itself, apart from God, cannot close the security gap. The job is too big for government."

"I will not try to supplant almighty God," said Homeland Security chief Thomas Preston. "All I do is try to obey the dictates of the Kentucky General Assembly. I really don't know what their motivation was for this. They obviously felt strongly about it."

I just cannot keep up these days with all the requirements and whatnot God is supposed to be busy with.

9. Well in my world all of them are the same God.
Although I still wouldn't put something this dumb into government.

Did God tell someone directly?
Or is someone assuming he knows the mind of God?

4. Not only did the fuckwit insert that clause into the law,
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 07:19 PM by muriel_volestrangler
he also insists on drawing attention to his fuckwittery by complaining when the public servants don't follow one of the most ridiculous crap laws I've ever seen. Has the man no shame?

And I'm sad to say the fuckwit is a Democrat: http://www.kentucky.com/210/story/608229.html

though there at least was another Democrat (Kathy Stein) who told him he was a raving lunatic, though in more parliamentary language.

6. He's a gem.
Wrote legislation to have the 10 commandments posted on the state capitol grounds.

It seems like God failed on 9/11, so why would you look to him to keep your state safe. And being a Hoosier that lives but 25 minutes from downtown Louisville, I have to say that there is nothing in Kentucky that the terrorist would want to blow up anyways. It reminds me of the joke, Q:Why do birds fly upside down over Kentucky? A: There is nothing to Sh** on in Kentucky!

8. Cool, let's just get rid of DHS and trust the job to God then
Sounds good to me, I'm tired of having my rights trampled on and our Constitution shredded. At least God will leave me alone, unlike the DHS.

we could give credit to "nature's God." That ought to take care of all of the various deities that seem to be around. It's sufficiently vague to satisfy pretty much anyone. There's even a nice precedent that nobody could fault.
