7. What a tease.
The story goes nowhere. In fact it's not even really a story. What a gyp.

2. So what is it worth now?
In 1965 my now ex told his parents he wanted ten shares of IBM. They gave him five shares. In 1980 those five shares had become 160 shares. Not long after, the ex sold those shares, so I have no idea how many or what they'd be worth now.

But those are always interesting stories, and generally show the enormous value of compounding.

8. When my father In-law passed away, my husband found a stock certificate...
for 275 shares of Meadow Group stock. I can't find info on it's worth. My husband think the stock is worthless.

11. There are ways to trace
old stocks. I don't know anything about it, although you could try doing an internet search. A research librarian would also be someone who could point you to places or people who do those searches. Don't throw away the certificate until you can establish exactly what happened to that company. Every so often you hear stories of people with a stock certificate like that of some nowadays totally unknown company that turns out to have been a precursor to something that's still in business. So research this very carefully. And yes, the odds are high that it is worthless, but you never know.

15. Found Meadow Group Inc, MDOW in the OTC "Pink Sheets"
Doesn't look like it's been actively traded in years. The last price was $.001/share. I'm not sure if this is the same Meadow Group you are referring to but thought I would check since I was logged into my trading account when I read your post.

Peace,
MZr7

16. A quick search took me here...
http://www.oldstockexchange.com/companylistm.htm
Old Stock Exchange TM
We Buy and Sell Collectible Stock and Bond Certificates
and
Research Company's Stock Certificates

Meadow Group is listed there.

A little more digging says that it was a penny stock back in the 90's when this case was filed.

Enjoy!

21. Welcome to DU MOrpheus, You'll fit in great here with some of the nicest helpful people.
Knowing now that my father In-law dabbled in penny stock, makes me feel a lot better about another stock certificate I found and then lost while clearing out his home. :)

10. Speaking of Indiana and oil, I saw something on the tube the other night
about a guy who lives on top of former Indiana oil fields. He got so frustrated with the cost of energy, he decided to start digging. Amazingly, like the Clampetts, he hit oil. He invested $100,000 in equipment to get it out of the ground and now gets about 4 barrels a day out of his well. He also gets natural gas to heat his home and some of his neighbors. If I lived anywhere near this area, I'd start digging, too.

17. Thats BP now isn't it?
There are several refineries around here and if I recall correctly, Standard Oil was one that was bought out and eventually became BP.
