3. This is purely anecdotal but from people I've talked to it seems that Target does treat |

their employees much better. One of the people I talked to worked at both and liked Target quite a bit more.

I do shop there now and then, and they are unionized...I think.
They certainly don't use the same marketing practices that Wal-Mart does...
None of this door-busting stuff...

13. Target is NOT unionized |
|
In fact they are strongly anti-union. When they first went into the grocery business they tried a number of union busting tactics to bring in nonunion butchers but were unsuccessful. That is the reason all of their meats are prepackaged. They would rather thumb their noses at the union than to offer fresh cut meat to their customers.

20. I really hate that Target is undercutting the other grocery stores in the area |
|
I know someone who works for them (slightly higher up the food chain there) and he says they don't make any money on the groceries. I worry that they will run the union shops in the area out of business.

21. They need to be able to compete with the Super Walmarts |
|
So they pay more for the prepackaged foods to avoid bending to the unions and then barely break even. And yes, they would not be opposed to busting the grocery unions.

They aim for (sub)urban centers and not small towns with mom and pop at the expense.

8. It's sure as hell cleaner and it smells better |
|
and the aisles are wider and less cluttered.
All in all it's a better place to shop.
Wal Mart does carry ammunition and the old time Christmas candy nobody else seems to have so I go there a couple of times a year.
If it weren't for that I wouldn't go near the place.

they were planning a new super walmart less then a mile from me but we the people banded together and got it stopped. The area was ridiculous, it's residential.

NO. They're absolutely no different. I've checked the products and they're all the same imports from third world sweat shops. The only reason I went to Target was that I thought they were union. So now I'll just go to the Fred Meyer and make sure I use the grocery checkers who I know are union.

plus i really detest shopping, i buy stuff online especially this time of the year because most of my family lives on the east coast and i do my food shopping at the actual supermarket that's about 2 miles from my house, the rest i get at Costco and Trader Joe's. I think i traded Target in for Costco.

So, actually, you really don't know. You're guessing, because as you stated, you rarely go there. You went there once and didn't have what you were looking for. Probably toward the end of the one-week sale period, I'd guess. If it was in the flyer, they'd give you a rain check.
Maybe you should stick to commenting on the stores you DO go to.

but I don't really shop at Walmart. The atmosphere in Target is more pleasant to me. The products in Target seem nicer to me as well. I've never bought anything other than paper towels at Walmart but I've walked through their clothes department and I'm not a fan. The clothes at Target are nice and I've bought a few shirts there before.

I'd dead broke, so I am forced to shop at Walmart and I've noticed Target's food prices are almost as good, sometimes just as good. As for other merchandise other than staples, I wouldn't know.

I shop there a few times a year...but never shop at Walmart. The stores seem clean and well managed and employees are pleasant.
One thing I've noticed in the store nearest me, some Muslim women employees wear a shiny red Target hijab or headdress. I think that's rather cool.

the answer is no. Say what you will about Wal-Mart, but at least I am able to park my 18 wheeler at a lot more Super Wallys than Super Targets. Super Wallys are 24 hrs mostly, Super Targets close at 11P. Super Wally has Truck motor oil, Antifreeze, Howe's and PowerService, etc that is cheaper than the Truck Stops and as long as you respect the lot, you can get your DOT-mandated 10 yr break in there.
as for deliveries to Distribution Centers, they are about the same with policies, on-site parking (NYET), lumpers (NYET), etc.

Target doesn't have the market power that Walmart does. Walmart uses that power to force more suppliers to manufacture their products in cheap labor markets instead of the US. Target is guilty of buying those cheap products from China too, but they aren't responsible for pushing so many of those jobs overseas like Walmart did. Walmart has put a lot of people who had good paying union jobs out of work.
