Bush Scores in Football Speech just Hours after Fumbling Iraq Address. How Appropriate!
George W. Bush would make a horrible poker player: you can read the guy like a book. His composure during speeches betrays precisely what he is thinking (or, in most cases, not thinking).

Just hours after Bush ominously announced the dark days ahead in Iraq on Monday, he was partying it up with the NCAA champion Florida Gators football team on the White House lawn.

The contrast between his two speeches was striking. Granted, the topics were radically different and we recognize the ceremonial role of the president. But the difference in his appearance went beyond mere demeanor.

In his Iraq speech, Bush had a look of bewilderment. His trademark squinted eyes solidified the confused expression encompassing his face. He swayed several feet to either side every few moments, forcing the camera to follow back and forth with motion sickness-inducing loyalty (as if the words were not nauseating enough).

Bush's voice also revealed his discomfort. The stammering has gotten better, but his pitch, inflection, and pace varied awkwardly. After six years talking in front of the world, he still cannot help but remain absolutely terrified when saying things he does not really believe or understand.

Hey, we get pretty scared, too.

The Florida Gators saw a completely different man...

2. Well, sure he's comfortable around football players, his being an ex-cheerleader and all...
...wearing a skirt and shaking his pom poms over a bunch of very large men is quite liberating for him.

George learned to be a cheerleader in school, not a pResident!

Edit...Right about now he's probably telling Karl and The Artful Dodgers team...DEFENSE...DEFENSE...DEFENSE!

4. Interesting take. But it fails to point out
that it's not that Bush is better suited to talk football rather than Iraq, it's that he could care less about Iraq, period. He treated the Iraq speech like a guy who had to come into work on Saturday.
He acts like the stress of the world is on his shoulders, and then a moment later he's talking football and the horrors of his war are gone completely.

Because he's pompous and just doesn't give a shit.

6. It was yesterday that I decided I was content with Ohio State losing the championship game.
I would never want my Buckeyes to have to be in the presence of that idiot!

7. That's funny...
But personally, I wouldn't want to ever be in Bush's presence either, if nothing more than for my own safety. He's pissed so many people off, I don't want to be within 100 miles of the guy.
