{Dear Reader, this class is FICTITIOUS but the Afghan war debate points are real. How would you reply to it? What would you say to the U.S. government? To the U.S. media? What ever it is, please say it, for your voice matters and it could help to end the war there.}

The seven year old war in Afghanistan continues with no end in sight, as does the U.S. occupation. And for those such as Afghani President Hamid Karzai who want the war to end, in the words of U.S. Major General Robert Cone, there is "a long way to go."

Mr. Karzai asked the United Nations to help establish a timeline for the war's end. He also asked the UN to stop the civilian casualties caused by the American led forces, which are allowed to be there under a UN mandate.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Senator Nisar Memon made a similar appeal to NATO. The answer to both men is silence, as the war grows worse.

Nearly everyone knows Iraq is a horrific and bloody mess. And most people have some awareness of the tragedy of the Vietnam war. Many know of the staggering death toll from the Soviet Union's invasion and occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980's. Having seemingly learned nothing from it, America is walking in the Soviet footsteps.

To save the lives of God knows how many Afghani men, women and children and those of the fighting forces, it is crucial that you and I raise our voices for sanity and for peace. It will also help to save the U.S. from its race to moral and financial bankruptcy.

Your voice matters. Please let us hear from you for you could make a real difference.

I read MN Against Bush's OP this morning:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x4564416
and I liked it a lot. Especially this part:

"Obama has kept George Bush's Secretary of Defense, and we are going to have the same person who has been overseeing this illegal and immoral war for the past two years is going to continue to oversee it as a member of the Obama Administration. At the same time Obama is about to send more troops into Afghanistan, to continue another pointless war that has been going on for seven years now with nothing to show for it. We still have no clue where bin Laden is, in fact we don't even know if he is alive any more, and the rest of the people involved in the 9/11 attacks were not even from Afghanistan. The war in Afghanistan is wrong, it has always been wrong, and it needs to end. If Obama really is going to send more troops to Afghanistan he is wrong, he is dead wrong in fact and he needs to be called out on it."

2. The U.S. needs to stop Torturing & clean up it's act so we can go to one of the International Courts
to advocate for those whom we say we MUST kill Afghanis for. I know that at the Right Wing Grassroots' level this amounts to stuff that is being associated with the Human Rights of Women and the activities of the Taliban.

We must give places like Afghanistan some options other than "The Chicago Boys 7.0" and we'll have to stop violating International Justice ourselves in order to make a push for this.
