Poll question: Is It Possible To Support Barack Obama While Still Belonging To DU? |
|
Having some doubts here. There is a lot of Obama bashing going on around the once friendly confines of DU, and frankly I find it all a bit off-setting. And I've begin to wonder if this is truly a site for Democrats, or merely a collection of habitually contentious folks who are having a little difficulty squaring their tacit political affiliation with the fact that the Democrats are now in control of just about everything.
The convoluted reasoning that I find particularly droll is that if we are not calling out the Obama administration (in utero), we are somehow doing him a disservice. And that by not attacking him on some of his picks we are some how aligning ourselves with the right.
Now I like to complain about the gummint as much as the next guy, but when self-styled progressives adopt the same talking points as Rush Limbaugh (particularly on the "He's sold out Change because he picked _______" meme), well, it gets kind of tiresome after you've read it 60 or so times.
So here's my question: Is it possible to support Barack Obama while still belonging to DU?

2. I say 'yes' but given a choice, I'll support Obama over DU. |
|
Obama seems to be making far more coherent sense than some of the idiocy I respond to.

5. LOL. Supporting somebody means being able to see where you agree and disagree with him. |
|
If I was searching for somebody to worship, I would join an organized religion, not a political website.

this truly is getting ridiculous. Democrats, like all human beings, have their own personally opinions and views of their elected leaders.
The fact that that has you wondering if you are welcome here anymore, truly speaks more about your delusion of there not being 100% support behind our President Elect.

'"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."'

Doesn't change the basic make up of the site visitors. We strongly support Obama.
But tabloid threads do draw traffic like flies on shit, don't they?
