I Don't Think the Attacks Were 'India's 9/11', But Rather the Prelude to 'India's Iraq Invasion' |
|
The drumbeat started early and has gotten louder. Blame Pakistan. Before any evidence was reveled, while the Mumbai attacks were still ongoing, it was blame Pakistan. Now, is is over and the US points to Pakistan. India points to Pakistan.
Rhetoric is escalating, Pakistan is responding in kind. I don't claim to know who is responsible. But, too many questions are as of yet unanswered, and too much 'information' doesn't add up to ratchet the saber-rattling and finger pointing.
The meme that started immediately, that this is India's 9/11, doesn't mean the shock, or the destruction or the loss of life. It means, 'U.S. welcomes India to the Waronterra'. It means they will be given adequate cover to respond by whatever means they deem necessary.
I don't know where this will go, but it is not looking good. Things either get worse or they get better. Right now, things are getting much worse.

2. US Director of National Intelligence blames LeT: |
|
Lashkar was blamed for the attack in public remarks Tuesday by U.S. Director of National Intelligence J. Michael McConnell. McConnell did not name the organization, but said the attackers were from the same group responsible for Mumbai train bombings in 2006 that killed more than 200. Indian authorities have blamed Lashkar-e-Taiba for those attacks. http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-fg-mumbai3-2008dec03,0,7749518.story

6. That makes a lot of sense. |
|
The way Indian officials have resigned, and the claims of the Pakistani connection are flimsy. Some in Pakistan are claiming that it was a black flag attack from within India, by Indians. Who knows. It is not out of the question that it was MIHOP or LIHOP. At the least, it will be exploited by India from now on.

9. The point was that PETRAEUS had wanted to go THROUGH India to deal with Pakistan |

One would have to be a committed coincidence theorist to think that this is just another lucky coincidence for BushInc.

7. India won't do anything besides sabre rattle with Pakistan |
|
Because any time crap happens in Pakistan, India is always the first culprit and vice versa. Why the Brits split British India into those two countries boggles the mind. But both have nuclear weapons, which means neither will make it a full-on war - for the stupidly obvious reasons.

8. I hope you're right. But, I fear you are not. |

India is not ruling out military action. Could be just talk. The Taliban in Pakistan have offered to call a truce with the Pakistani military, so they can all fight India. The US has said it will not green light or RED LIGHT any retaliatory attack on Pakistan.
We'll see. It is not looking good.

Sure. India just makes up these terrorist incidents (last week was hardly the first) to provide them with an excuse to invade Pakistan. I´ve never heard anything so preposterous in my life.

11. I didn't say India made these attacks up. |
|
I said we are seeing a rush to judgment, which could be similar to the rush to invade Iraq.
The evidence they have produced that Pakistan is behind this attack is all based on hearsay, so far. There have been many other bombings and attacks in India, to be sure. But, this rush to blame with such little transparency is very familiar. I said I don't know who was behind it, but I do believe it is about to be horribly exploited.
To call this 'India's 9/11' is preposterous. Especially since they have dealt with terrorist attacks for many years.
