UPDATE 6:15 P.M. FROM ADVOCATE CAPITOL NEWS BUREAU

Gov. Kathleen Blanco announced tonight that she will not seek reelection. She said she wants to focus the rest of the year on “the people’s work, not politics.”

"Today, I am announcing that, after much thought and prayer, I have decided not to seek re-election as your governor," Blanco said in the letter, which was provided by a source in the Democratic Party on condition of anonymity.

1. Good luck to her.
I don't agree with her acquiescing on certain issues, but she has had a tough row to hoe.

2. Here's the good news. John Breaux
is considering running for her seat. Against Bobby Jindal, a giant BushBot who would have easily beat Blanco, who has been an extreme disappointment to this Louisianian.

3. We'll just see if courts try to be DU's favorite thing: Ethical

We've had many people run for office with driver's licenses and voter registration in other states, Maryland included. But now you hear all the calls for "Ethics, you have to have ethics, ethics are oh so lovely." So we'll see if the courts fall into that bullshit and say Breaux can't run.
