Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.7%

New figures from the Labor Department show a much sharper
worsening of employment conditions than economists expected.
Some 533,000 nonfarm jobs were eliminated in November, the
most in one month since the mid-1970s, and figures for the
prior two months were revised upward by 199,000. The
unemployment rate rose two-tenths of a point to 6.7 percent
in November.

The rate would have been even higher if LARGE NUMBERS
of discouraged workers had not given up looking for work.

7.1% when Bush the smarter put the WH in better hands. 4.2% when his kid started screwing it up. He needs to beat daddy so much in his Oedipal little twistred mind that he can't even let the unemployment rate be lower than Pappy's.

I was a cab driver for 1 1/2 years but I had no unemployment insurance protection because of IC status when I got let go.

4. But for a slight taste of the REAL unemployment numbers you need to look at the U6.

It is currently listed as 12.5 for November 2008 and that does NOT include people who have stopped looking for a job after a year.

Personally I believe the unemployment numbers are about 20%, if we counted the unemployed like we did during the First Republicon Great Depression.
