Two things I got from yesterday's hearings: Chyrsler should fail, Ford doesn't need $$ |
|
I'm sorry, but Chrysler is a privately held company owned by a massive financial holding company with plenty of cash on hand to invest if it wants to. It appears not to want to. They want, obviously, to use someone else's money instead (ours). Fuck 'em.
Ford actually turned a profit recently (so stuff it, all you " being inefficient and building cars no one wants" people). But, they want a promise of money in the future just in case. Again, no soup for you.
GM, otoh, is genuinely an integral part of our manufacturing base. What's left of it. And their tentacles reach far throughout the economy, even to Toyota and Honda and their supply chains as well. They employ so many people in so many areas, that it would be insane NOT to at least try to staunch the bleeding, even if temporarily. Do you realize how much unemployment and food stamps will cost the government? It's a drop in the bucket compared to what it would cost to prop them up (and what's left of our econmy).
Oh, and Senator Shelby (and his MSM enablers) can kiss my ass. Asked point-blank this morning whether or not this was a North/South thing for him, seeing as how he lives in a right to work state and hopes to get the "new improved" plants to move to his state, he of course just denied it. And of course, no talking head offered the slightest hint of a follow up question pertaining to union-busting.
This is a shameful display all around, to be sure. But one thing you WON'T hear on the news is any sort of objective, reasoned analysis. They're clearly propping up the corporate union-busters.

1. Its not only the money that will be paid out in social costs that are important |
|
Its also the taxes that will no longer be paid into the treasury we will lose too. These workers who make a decent living are all taxpayers. And that is without all the loopholes the wealthy get so they don't pay anything. These workers actually pay taxes.
Think about what losing those payments into the treasury will do to the funding for SS and Medicare.

2. I think all these fucking Congressman should be forced to play Sim City |
|
Or whatever the hell it is them kids are playing these days. I just remember on Sim City that you could actively see the money moving around as you cut taxes here, police there...it was a very cool way to see the ramifications of your decisions play out. I don't think any of the fuckers has a clue what they're doing. They've all been in government so long the only cause-and-effect relationships they see are what happens to their donations if they don't kowtow to some lobbyist or special interest group.
