RW message on church near us |
|
This sort of thing pisses me off to no end. There is a church near where I live that has a message board out front -- sort of like a movie theater marquee -- where they post various things. Often the messages are witty, insightful, even funny.
But they've had a message since the election that is pissing me off. The message says:
To find Heaven, turn right and go straight.
I feel like slapping my own sign next to theirs saying something like "Hey I.R.S. -- LOOK".
But I'm sure they would say that "right" means "correct" and "straight" means "straightforward" and deny any political connotations.
Pisses me off.

1. That's not an IRS violation. If they said "Vote McCain" (or vote Obama), that's a violation. |
|
Non-profits are allowed to be as political as they want in terms of causes, issues, and ideologies; they are NOT allowed to suggest specific candidates by name.

Jesus's ideas were pretty liberal as far as I can tell. And there is not a single statement in the entire New Testament in regards to sexual orientation.

6. Pisses me off, too - I don't think anyone with real empathy to Jesus' teachings can vote republican |
|
and still be considered moral.
Not that the dems are perfectly moral; but that the republicans are so far from it.

4. someone should 'alter' the sign to say: |
|
"To follow Jesus, turn left. He's not too far in front of you."

9. Those "sayings" are often |
|
Sermon titles. It would be interesting to hear the sermon and see where it goes. It is entirely possible that the right is not RightWing but right as in correct. Then again it might be as you think.

10. Put up a sign that says "RENDER UNTO CAESAR, BITCH!" instead. |
|
Everyone forgets that famous quote of Our Lord. Well, not the "bitch" part, but the "render unto Caesar" part.
