1. Gotta tell you DU...I'm more than a little disappointed....
...that a thread about the 100th Canadian soldier to die fighting the Afghanistan war has been viewed (as of this writing) a measley 18 times and responded to not even once in the approximately half hour since it was first started.

Next to the U.S. and the U.K., Canada has lost more soldiers than any other nation fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq combined.

I thought people here gave slightly more of a shit about Canada than does the rest of the American MSM, which portrays Canada either as a quaint place filled with hockey players or as a place where Americans go to dodge the draft, go AWOL from the military, or where people have to wait in long lines even for emergency surgery.

Having said that I offer a full-throated K&R to this thread.

3. Judgin by the lack of interest in the political crisis here, I'm not surprised
The real sad thing is that no one has attacked Canada, we're there because they attack you guys, our friends.

4. Hey, you know I care
But then again I did live in your country for four years. I met several people in the reserves but nobody that I know of who has been to Afghanistan. I have one good American friend who is now on her second tour over there and she says it's no picnic for sure, so at least I've got that perspective.

6. I know, I know.
A kid who grew up in my neighbourhood has been deeply traumatized by his term in the Middle East. When Canadian soldiers were killed by friendly fire, he was one of the guys on the scene right after. Really messed him up. He actually was getting professional help after a brief standoff with police. He thought the taliban were trying to get into the house, luckily the police believed his wife when she his gun was plastic so they never fired a shot.
