to get up that early, endure the cold, and deal with insand people!

No "bargain" is worth that to me!

1. I'd probably trample somebody to death.
I fucking hate crowds of shoppers like that. And finding a parking spot during that shit.

Fuck it.

2. Hell no.
I got stuck working in that madness a few times, and that's more than enough to turn me off of it.

3. I don't celebrate the holidays by reducing it to materialism
I don't believe the holidays were ever meant to be so commercialized. I donate my time and some money to my union feeding the poor in our neighborhoods.

4. I do. I admit it. I am playing into the materialism that is society, but I can't help the fact
that I loves me some shoes!

I hate crowds. I hate shopping. I hate traffic. And I hate mornings.

I once worked retail on a Black Friday, though. I wouldn't wish that fate on anyone.

6. When Black Friday Comes...
TITLE: Black Friday
Lyrics and Chords

< Ebdim7 = >

When Black Friday comes
I'll stand down by the door
And catch the gray men
When they dive from the fourteenth floor
When Black Friday comes
I'll collect everything I'm owed
And before my friends find out
I'll be on the road
When Black Friday falls you know it's got to be
Don't let it fall on me

/ E7 - - - / : / A G6 F#7 G6 Ebdim7 A7 B7 - / E7 - - - /

When Black Friday comes
I'll fly down to Muswellbrook
Gonna strike all the big red words
From my little black book
Gonna do just what I please
Gonna wear no socks and shoes
With nothing to do
But feed all the Kangaroos
When Black Friday comes I'll be on that hill
You know I will

When Black Friday comes
I'm gonna dig myself a hole
Gonna lay down in it
'Til I satisfy my soul
Gonna let the world pass by me
The Archbishop gonna sanctify me
And if he don't come across
I'm gonna let it roll
When Black Friday comes I'm gonna stake my claim

11. Yeah, I saw some great Black Friday sales online..
I ordered a nice soup pot from Amazon. Awesome price with free shipping.

I resisted the Black Friday stuff on newegg. I might have gotten carried away. :P

9. We went. Meh. No big deal. We really didn't end up with any
great deals. It was kind of a waste of time--we got better deals online.

12. Really depends upon the needs and the deals
I really thought the ads sucked this year, so we skipped it.

13. It's such a rip off.
The *supposed* sales? Stores pick a limited amount of loss leaders to put in ads. Of course, the prices were actually RAISED a few weeks before, so the typically blind *shopper* will think they are getting a *bargain*, when actually the price has only gone back to what it was a month or two before.

So you freeze your ass off in the dark for a few measly bucks? Hell, we found BETTER deals before the black friday - and the sales will probably continue, or be even BETTER, just before Christmas because the stores will have to get rid of the merchandise by the end of the year, or incur more losses.

They should hand out tshirts with one word -- SHEEP -- to the fools who fell for this garbage.

14. I'm always curious
about who people buy for?

What would compel people to trample each other for cheaply made crap? What compels people to buy online cheaply made crap?

15. I'm always working Thursday night/Friday morning
I work supporting the retailer so many people assert is the Evil Empire.

On Friday morning I was desperately trying to find parts for a down system -- our parts coordination people also had down systems, so they were trying to tell me there were no parts at all in Texas.

Liars.

16. Never have before.
This year though we had occasion to happen along a Walmart that had less than half the parking lot full. So we swung in. No way my kids would get the MP3 player they have been waiting for if we hadn't.

I know, it's not right supporting these assholes, and we don't. But a thirty dollar MP3 and video player for my kids? Sorry, I couldn't pass it up. Granted this was 10:30 at night, and I figured they would be gone. But they placed them oddly and not a one was missing. lol

So no, I would never go there in the morning etc. But I do admit to hitting the sale an hour before it closes to see what hasn't been picked over, at least I did this year.

18. I went shopping on Black Friday for the 1st time in my life.
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 06:15 AM by fasttense
I was very disappointed. It wasn't worth the effort.

The deals were not at all anything I would call great. I've gotten better deals by shopping after Christmas sales.

The ads were very misleading too. I would take things up to the checkout, only to find out the one I'd chosen was Not on sale. When the sign reads 50% off all items in the store, they don't really mean all the items in the store are 50% off.

I got this feeling as if the stores weren't really trying. I visited Target, Old Navy and a few others. Their sales were ho-hum and their products were very limited, mostly Chinese crap. I got the feeling that retailers knew we would be out on Black Friday so they didn't need to do anything to get our business. They put up a few signs, spent a lot on advertisement, but made no real effort to offer a worthwhile sale. It was as if the bush was running Black Friday - all talk (or advertisement and hype) but no substance.

19. I went out - around 10:00. No problems.
Found a close parking spot. The check-out lane was no more than a couple of minutes.

No problems at all.

20. Just think, if no one came out on black Friday, we would all enjoy
savings through the entire holiday season.. and the stores would put more than 5 electronic items on sale.

let alone on Black Friday. It sounds like my worst nightmare. I do all my Christmas shopping online.

22. This was the first time
our clothes dryer gave up the ghost a couple days before black friday and my wife as luck would have it seen a heck of a deal that sears had on a pair of frontloader washer/dryer that saved us a ton of money, a couple three or so hundreds anyway. With sears they put a limit on the time they were on sale, 5:30 am to 11 am but not on the quantity so it wasn't like what chinamart did with their 42" lcd tv's, five per store. hell of a deal they, walmart, had but as we can see it also caused a lot of grief for one family, for sure. Nothing is worth a life except'n of course if its a life thats trying to take your own then maybe it is.

23. Every day is black friday on my computer..
Shop online and search literally billions of bargains.

I'm an obsessive researcher and got a very nice digital camera for my wife for well under $100 delivered, I haven't found anything equivalent in the stores for less than $175 and then I'd have to pay taxes.

Then I'll sell her old camera for like $40 or so and have upgraded her from 3 to 7 megapixels for around $50, we used to spend that much on film and developing in a good month back in the days of film and we take way more pictures now.

25. I've participated in Buy Nothing Day, which coincides with Black Friday (no coincidence)
and with the exception of buying a few presents for my autistic son, I don't participate in the commercial aspect of Christmas.
