Why can't the Obama administration shake down the oil companies? |
|
Billions of billions of dollars that the Bush administration made for them by starting wars and letting them drive up prices.
Take it. Put it towards green technologies, fixing Bush's Depression, and helping out ordinary Americans.
I think Americans would be thrilled to see that happen. Seize them. And Nationalize them in the name of National Security.
I will now illustrate with several lines from the Godfather:
MICHAEL
Where does it say that you can't kill a cop?
HAGEN
Come on, Mikey...
MICHAEL
Tom, wait a minute. I'm talking about a cop -- that's mixed up in drugs. I'm talking about ah
- ah - a dishonest cop -- a crooked cop who got mixed up in the rackets and got what was
coming to him. That's a terrific story. And we have newspaper people on the payroll, don't
we, Tom?
And they might like a story like that.

1. He's not in office yet! And one of the first benefits noticed by electing Obama.... |
|
was a drop in oil/gas prices! I believe that big oil/bush administration is afraid that the investigation you suggest will be conducted when he takes office.

They made a "killing" in the last 8 years, bought back billions of their own stocks, and have filled their offshore bank accounts with billions of dollars. If McCain would have been elected, it would still be the "plan". With Obama they are letting the price drop so the won't get hit with a "windfall" profit tax, and can point to the low prices and say they are "not" making enough money for such things. They also hope that the low prices will kill any further interest in alternative sources of energy. Low prices in the past have stopped investment into renewable sources of energy, and allowed the oil companies to continue making money, and gradually raising prices back up. The country can not fall for this crap again, and new sources of renewable energy need to be invested in so that we don't see the $4-$5 prices at the pump again down the road. It can be done if congress can break their addiction to "lobbyist" money, and stand up to the big oil companies.

2. The big oil companies profited heavily for the last 8 years. |
|
So did many of the big defense industry companies.
It is time to put a tax on the windfall profits the oil companies made, and give it to those big defense contractors and tell them to develop alternative energy sources. The defense contractors should work at 'cost'. Is is a matter of National Security after all.

3. Who ever heard of a "soldier" shaking down a Mafia Don? |
|
For sure the strategic industries need to be nationalized but when you see that you'll know that the revolution has happened. It ain't gonna happen under the incoming administration.
