Fox News is reporting their source said that Emil Jones will replace Obama in Senate
Illinois Senate President Emil Jones will replace President-elect Barack Obama in the United States Senate, a source told FOX News.

Jones, 73, served in the House of the Illinois General Assembly for 10 years until 1983 before joining the state Senate, where he's been ever since. He has four children with his late wife, Patricia.

I sure hope not. Emil Jones was the worst president of the state senate ever, and that is saying a lot since in Chicago politics we've had some very bad ones. Emil Jones didn't get along with either the Dems or GOPers.

Emil is best buds with crooked, corrupt Blago; so there's that.

8. Yup, the man has so many skeletons in his closet
there is no way he could win on his own in 2010. A seat warmer.

2. Why would they tap a 73 year old to fill the senate seat?
Makes no sense.

6. He's one of the Governor's few allies, and he
did a lot to make Obama's career. And a lot of people think and African-American should be appointed.

12. Rumor is Blago is about to indicted
so whomever he appoints would be so tainted they couldn't win in 2010. The only thing to do is appoint a place holder and let the long-term prospects run in two years.

4. Remember, the source is Fox. Duckworth or Jackson would be great picks.

7. In a way, he's a good choice.
IF this is true, it leaves people like Lisa Madigan...who was talked about as a possible appointment...to run against Blagojevich in the primary in 2010. I've had my fill of our asshole governor, thank you.

14. Do you really think there is a chance he would have picked Madigan?
Yes he wants to get rid of her as competition, but he really hates her. And the man is spiteful.

15. Yes...I think he would have picked her just to remove her as a primary opponent in 2010.
She's popular in this state. She would have been a tough primary opponent.

16. yup, she sure is
In fact that is the election I picked to volunteer for in 2010, if she runs. She is a great AG and would make a better Gov.

9. This article has absolutely zero credibility.

No one knows what the Governor is going to do. State Democrats openly wonder if the Governor has literally lost his mind. An "unnamed source" article can't be taken the least bit seriously.

I don't think Jones was as bad as Pate Phillips but he's a poor excuse for a Democrat who blocked progressive legislation and used his office to line the pockets of friends and family.

10. Fox is just trying to tag Obama with the "Old Chicago Gang" meme

if this were true Fox would be the last one to know about it.

19. Emil Jones is a self-serving bum!
When the Illinois budget was in the red and people were losing their jobs all over the state, Emil Jones was going to accept an automatic pay increase of over 12% without even having the courage to put it to an up or down vote. His more ethical colleagues voted it down. Jones is also an ally of Rod "soon to be indicted" Blagojevitch.
