2. I remember being pissed because I had to be twelve to buy fireworks
That was in 1965. England certainly isn't the same place I recall as a kid.

I doubt the juvenile cutlery market segment is that large. I cannot imagine a 17 year old angrily demanding the right to purchase a 16pc place setting of that nice Oneida Art Deco design in 18/8 stainless.

However since I also know school leaving age in the UK is 16, and that the weapon of choice for young thugs is the utility knife, I wonder how the apprentices at carpet laying companies manage.

5. Just when I thought homo sapiens couldn't get any dumber
our brilliant species hauls off and lowers the bar yet again!

At least it's perversely comforting to know that America doesn't have a monopoly on breathtakingly stupid societal/governmental ridiculousness...

Most people who never spent much time in English pubs of a certain type would be startled to see what kind of weapons show up.

I took away several Stanley knives with two blades welded together in parallel a few mm apart (so the cut would be impossible to sew up neatly and leave a bigger scar) when I worked the doors, plus dozens of normal utility knives with various blades (the hooked ones are really nasty) and an assortment of home made weapons like as you said normal knives sharpened on flints or stone, combs with the teeth taken away and razor blades heat-set into the spine, even a roasting fork or two.

Of course the ones I and those like me DIDN'T manage to take away are the problem.

But then again when a smashed up pint glass can wreak as much havoc as it cetainly can, most pubs (who needed to serve in glass to satisfy their normal beer-drinking customers who hated the leeching taste of plastic) and even teh clubs who used glass were always facing a vain struggle to limit weapons anyway,

When you criminalize beer glasses...fuck the outlaws who have beer glasses; prepare for revolution in England.

9. Time for England to ban MSNBC at night....
After all, what are their overnight "Lockdown" marathons except one big DIY seminar on making shanks from unconventional materials?
