2009 US Congressional Majority is Still NOT Pro-Choice
http://www.prochoiceamerica.org/elections/2008-congressional-results.html

Now that the election is over, and I've learned that: "Yes I Can" and I can "Be the Change I Want to See", I am thinking about my top political issue. And, of course, it's around abortion, because I'm pro-abortion. (Yes, really. Think China.) So, I scurried over to NARAL with my "Yes I Can" attitude, and was quite alarmed at not having a Pro-Choice congressional majority, even with the incoming Houses. Clearly, I've had blinders on, and hadn't realized that it had gotten so bad.

I admit that NARAL may skew the numbers with the concept of "mixed choice", which I interpret as either not consistently voting for choice, or consistently voting to take SOME choices away, but not others. It's probably the latter.

So, I'm writing to find out the level of concern here in DU, and ideas on how those of us who are Pro-Choice (and Pro-Abortion) can start reversing the trend toward "Rights of the Unborn", and, worse still, the erosion of access to birth control information. Here in Baltimore, MD, I am bombarded by billboards advocating abstinence. In North Carolina, there were billboards on adoption. It's not that I don't advocate these "choices", but what about the "Choice" to wear a condom???? When will I see THOSE billboards? And will anyone ever dare to put up a billboard on the "Choice" to terminate an unwanted pregnancy? The Choice to abort a fetus?

I feel that we have become scared to use the word abortion. We mix it up in an array of "choices", almost to win over the centrists, and even some who are slightly conservative, but don't want to go back to the days of coat-hangers. And as a result, our message is watered down.

Bringing an UNWANTED child to term may feel morally right... but is it really the sensible thing to do?

I know I'm late to get on the bandwagon here, but now that I'm feeling empowered, I'm wondering if others are going to take their newfound energy, sense of purpose, and belief in grassroots power, and go attack their number one issues.

Sitting back and hoping that the Obama administration can cure all is a waste of all that we have done over the last 2 years. The conservatives will not be sitting back...

Yes, I can go to the "Choice" forum. But I thought I'd come here first.

1. My concern level is extremely high.
Despite the shellacking those "personhood" initiatives took at the polls in various states the uterine police have redoubled their determination to push them.
