FUCK THOSE FUCKING FUCKERS.
This "bailout" is 100 times more important than the bank BAILOUT.

The amount being asked for is a drop in the bucket.

Everything is backwards...it's like the Twilight Zone.

Give the auto makers the goddamn money already.

39. The south is still fighting The Civil War but now it's an economic civil war and
they're winning this time because we are letting them win. The south, almost to a state, gets more money back from the federal government than they put in year after year. Without those federal welfare dollars those southern states wouldn't have the money to subsidize the new auto plants they sought from foreign manufacturers.

Next year when the budget comes up for a vote, cut the fucking federal tax redistribution welfare program to the south and let's see how well these traitorous, anti-American southern senators and their constituents do.

They want to play hardball. It's time they get beaned. But Reid and the Democrats don't sound like they have the balls to do anything of the sort. And PE Obama sounds as if he actually believes he can work with these people. I hope he has his eyes opened by all of this or he's in for a rude awakening.

38. The fact that you believe that is exactly how it works. The interests of R and D
voters are the same when it comes to economics. So ask yourself how it becomes a partisan issue when the voters agree. Because that is how Capital keeps labor divided, with phony issues, so that on the big issues they can keep you down.

Your argument has been made before. By me. Often. But much to my dismay people don't only vote on economic issues and they don't think those issues are phony.

And Labor likes and needs Capital more than you think - it's not so cut and dried if you have ever traveled to places where there is little capital.

You fall for the straw man argument. Its like when someone says "but, how can you be against corporations?" I'm not. and I'm not against capital, per se. I am against the unbridled accumulation of capital to the point where the balance of power is unattainable. In order for capitalism to be constrained sufficiently balance of power is necessary. By keeping us divided into R and D capital, which has already secured too much power, keeps us from being fairly represented. Result: the interests of R's and D's suffer equally while we bail out capital. IN FUCKING SANE.

5. It would have been less money, but the significance is not even close
In our economic system the survival of financial capital is WAY more important than the survival of several producers of a consumer good, albeit large producers and a big ticket consumer good.

I opposed both bailouts, and I seriously doubt if the bank bailout was necessary. However if the banks had all failed, all businesses would have collapsed as they need credit to survive.

Edited on Fri Dec-12-08 08:46 AM by bobd0
The ripple effects from this most recent attack in the Republican class war on working people will be recounted as the death blow that properly ushered in The Bush Depression.

There's still time to change that. By the end of the month I've read. But if the price is Republican control of labor issues then I say let them have their damn Bush Depression but make sure it's recorded properly for posterity. It wasn't "Congress" that stopped the auto industry bailout, it was Southern REPUBLICANS. Don't let them run away from this issue too. Hold them responsible for their actions.

I've read that some of the very land the southern foreign auto makers' plants are on was subsidized with state funds. So senators of states that subsidized foreign auto manufacturers to build plants in the U.S. are now blocking a loan to U.S. auto manufacturers.

This is bizarre. I know it's all about money. But at what point does more money trump patriotism? Those Southern Senators who spearheaded the opposition are sell-outs to the highest bidder in their continued class war on U.S. labor.

Edit to add

PS I love your thread title. K&R

19. The Republican goal is to force GM into bankruptcy
...Even if the UAW would have come forth with concessions that would have cut wages and benefits by 50%,that still would not have satisfied the Repukes..What they want is GM in bankruptcy court...
Then a bankruptcy Judge would package all their liabilities and within that package would be the UAW contract...A Judge could set the terms of the contract or void the contract all together..A bankruptcy court did this with the United Coal miners union...So this is the Repukes grand finale before a stronger Democratic Majority takes over next month..
What they fail to realize is the number of suppliers that will be forced into bankruptcy and the millions of jobs that will be lost for those that are directly dependent on the Auto industry. The steel industry(for 1) could be history..The Japanese auto companies buy most of their steel from Japan.
It just pisses me off that they gave Wall St. and banks billions with no oversight.Only to have those CEO's and other execs draw millions in bonuses and allow those that squandered investor money to recoup their personal losses....We could call this "The Paulson scam"
