If I can't have a new GM or Ford in my driveway
I'll never buy another bottle of American whiskey in my life.
Anyone else on board?

And Italian wines, and Irish beer.

Must be investment banking.

12. Yeah, must be. Only investment bankers appreciate quality.
I bought a Dodge Omni in 1983 and two American minivans as my new cars in the 80s and 90s. I was warned by friends that they would start falling apart immediately. And they did.

I was fooled twice. Never again.

13. My neighbor bought a honda
in the early 70s. Rusted out in less than 2 years.
Check J.D. Powers lately?

17. Well, we all have different experiences.
Our experience with Hondas is fantastic. In our family (including kids) we have a total of seven Hondas ranging in age from 1 to 10 years old. Not one has a single spot of rust.

If I had ever witnessed a car "rust out" in two years, I would be absolutely stunned. The newest car I've seen with rust was about 8 years old. No doubt, your neighbor's car was still under warrantee, so they were covered.

15. Funny isn't it that all the AT & T, gas company, and tow trucks are all American made. Just like
80% of all working farm vehicles. Guess those 'imports' can't stand up to real work.

18. Based on your recommendation, next time I buy a tow truck, it will be US made.

19. so if you were warned
why'd you buy them? The only thing Dodge, Chrysler or Plymouth built that was worth a shit, was the muscle car. Have you seen the prices these cars fetch today? Show me a japanese car of that age worth as much. Anybody dumb enough to have bought anything made by mopar in the 80's or 90's doesn't know shit from shoe polish.

6. My husband will be disappointed if he can't replace his current Chevy truck with a new Chevy truck
We are having another kid and really need a proper extended cab. Despite being quite old, it's reliable, but it's a somewhat shorter cab and barely fits my daughter. It will not be fun if we have to have her booster seat and an infant seat in that tiny back seat.

10. To be fair and honest
we do have a Toyota too. But you're right - we probably won't be driving it as long as we have our US cars, partly just because my husband works on cars as his hobby and I don't think he has any interest in working on a Toyota.

9. I have driven GM's, Fords and Toyotas....
and I currently drive a low mileage 2003 Chevy Blazer, which I love.

I think that the perceived "quality gap" between foreign and domestic cars has closed over the years.

11. There are very good vehicles from both US and foreign makers
It seems like some makers do particularly well in one type of vehicle or another, but there are good offerings certainly from GM and Ford. I'm not a big fan of Chrysler, but maybe I have some personal bias. I grew up with Chryslers that broke down continually, and maybe they're doing better too.
