Parents guilty of first-degree murder in Phoenix Sinclair case.

This is brutal.

Phoenix was a ward of Child and Family Services for much of her short life until Kematch, her biological mother, regained custody of the girl less than a year before her death in June 2005.

During that time, Phoenix was subjected to a horrifying battery of abuse. Jurors heard Kematch and McKay routinely beat the girl with their fists, feet, or a metal bar, forced her to eat her own vomit, and confined her to a cold barren basement. McKay's sons from a prior relationship testified he would choke Phoenix until she passed out and on other occasions shoot at her with a BB gun.

I could almost understand total indifference (how could you be around a young child and not just love it too much) but to go out of your way and make her life hell? A life in prison doesn't seem like enough.
