Judge temporarily lifts Stevens' law license

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Convicted Sen. Ted Stevens has temporarily lost his license to practice law in the District of Columbia, a decision that could become permanent after further proceedings.

Stevens' case now goes to the District's Board on Professional Responsibility, which can reprimand Stevens or ask the District of Columbia Court of Appeals to disbar him.

The chief judge of that court, Eric Washington, issued the temporary suspension order Thursday.

The 85-year-old Stevens, R-Alaska, lost his bid for re-election. The Senate's longest-serving Republican was convicted on seven counts of lying on Senate financial disclosure documents to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and home renovations.

The conviction triggered the procedure against Stevens, who has the right to contest the action.

The retiring senator has asked for a new trial. He has not been sentenced.

1. This could not happen to a more deserving person...
I hope the judge makes it permanent.

A scum-sucking bottom dweller is what Stevens is.

:puke:

2. An empty gesture.. I mean REALLY !!
how many of us think he's chomping at the bit to open a law firm at age EIGHTY-FIVE..or to get hired as a litigator?

The old coot has millions stashed away, and will live out his days barbequeing moose-cutlets on his Viking range and pacing on that wrap-around porch of his:)

3. But you know what? It's a dishonor. Yea, I'm sure he cares about that,
but he might.

4. Even empty, symbolic gestures can have impact...
You might be surprised at how much he misses having it.

It's a prestige thing...

IMHO, of course!

:P

5. Oh, I don't know. maybe Rod Blagojevich would want to hire him
for advice on how to remain in public office long after you've been indicted, tried and convicted of a crime. Rod just got arrested three days ago, and everyone's calling for his impeachment. This assclown is still a U.S. Senator!

6. Stevens would be as good a lawyer to him as Colson could be a role model

This was one of the most sickening phony things I ever read - http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/10/colson.corruption/index.html

If he really had found God and was genuinely sorry for the evil he did with his dirty tricks, he actually had a very rare opportunity to show his remorse and repentance was true in 2004. Years earlier when he first had reformed and was out of prison, he apologized to many people - purportedly to John Kerry. Now, the monster for which he was the Frankenstein, John O'Neil, was back - as he like Inspector Jarvet was still obsessively following and smearing Senator Kerry - just as Colson programed him to in 1971. If he were truly sorry, Colson had a moral obligation to stand up and admit what was said on the secret tapes - that they investigated him 2 years after his service - and he was a war hero and he was clean.
